Song on the Contraindications of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Regarding the Location of the "Human Spirit" in the Four Seasons
Article:
The locations where the "Human Spirit" resides during the four seasons are contraindicated for acupuncture and moxibustion; do not forget this when applying treatment. In spring, it is located at the left hypochondrium; in autumn, at the right hypochondrium; in winter, at the waist; and in summer, at the umbilicus.
Annotation: [1] The places where the "Human Spirit" resides refer to the initial sites of human vital energy (Shen Qi) activation, which correspond to the circulation of heaven (nature). Acupuncture and moxibustion are prohibited there to avoid damaging the vital energy (Sheng Qi).
[2] The "Human Spirit" generally resides in the heart region. In spring, it is in the left hypochondrium because the Liver governs ascending; in autumn, it is in the right hypochondrium because the Lung governs descending; in winter, it is at the waist because the Kidney (the master of Spirit) governs storage; in summer, it is at the umbilicus because the Spleen governs transformation and transportation.
