[Weyang Point Song]
The Weizhong (BL40, Hui-Sea of Blood) point is located in the center of the popliteal crease. It treats lower back pain that prevents movement, accompanied by a sour and heavy sensation radiating to the spine, as well as wind-induced muscle spasms and cramps.
The pain is severe and difficult to shift positions; wind-bi syndrome causes unbearable pain; febrile diseases result in prolonged bedridden states; and the feet and knees are difficult to extend or flex. Acupuncture brings immediate relief and health.
Note: [1] The Weizhong (BL40) point is located in the center of the popliteal fossa, in the depression of the arterial pulse at the popliteal crease.
[2] Indications include heavy and dragging pain along the sides of the spine in the lower back, clonic spasms, epilepsy, and calf muscle cramps with severe pain limiting movement. It also treats wind-bi pain, wandering pain (liu-zhu), refractory febrile diseases, and painful inability to extend or flex the feet and knees.
[3] Puncture 0.5 cun; retain the needle for seven breaths. Moxibustion is contraindicated (Figure 118).
[Chengshan Point Song]
The Chengshan (BL57) point, named for its resemblance to the belly of a fish, is located between the muscles of the calf. It is effective for treating lower back pain, hemorrhoids, and difficulty in defecation. It also treats foot qi (gouty arthritis/polyneuritis) with knee swelling,
and a cold, sour sensation in both feet. It addresses epidemic diseases characterized by tossing and turning, chills and fever from malaria, cholera, and muscle cramps. Needling provides immediate relief.
Note: [1] The Chengshan (BL57) point is located in the interval between the muscles at the lower tip of the calf.
[2] Indications include pain in the lower back, hemorrhoidal swelling, difficulty in defecation, foot qi with knee swelling, soreness of the shin and heel pain, cold damage and epidemic diseases, alternating chills and fever from malaria, inability to walk or stand due to chills, and cholera with muscle cramps.
[3] Puncture 0.5 cun; moxibustion 5 cones (Figure 119).
[Taichong Point Song]
The Taichong (LR3, Shu-Stream) point is located two cun posterior to the metatarsophalangeal joint on the dorsum of the great toe. The pulsation of the artery here indicates life and death prognosis. It can treat convulsive disorders (jing-feng),
pain in the throat, and distension in the heart and axillary regions. It treats immobility of both feet, hernias (seven types) with unilateral swelling and drooping, blurred vision like clouded eyes,
and lower back pain. It demonstrates miraculous efficacy upon needling.
Note: [1] The Taichong (LR3) point is located in the depression two cun posterior to the base of the first metatarsal bone. The arterial pulse is palpable. If this pulse is present, the patient lives; if absent, it indicates a critical condition (death).
[2] Indications include acute and chronic convulsions, epilepsy (sheep epilepsy), throat pain, distension in the chest and axilla, painful foot qi due to cold-dampness, difficulty walking, abdominal hernia with unilateral pain and swelling, dim vision, and lower back pain.
[3] Puncture 0.3 cun; retain the needle for ten breaths; moxibustion 3 cones (Figure 120).
