[Note] [1] The Yuan-Source point of the interior Heart Meridian is Shenmen (HT7), and the Luo-connecting point of the exterior Small Intestine Meridian is Zhizheng (SI7). The conditions indicated for needling these two points include: drinking water followed by immediate thirst or impaired fluid metabolism; pain in the back and abdomen radiating to the waist; dizziness leading to fainting or collapse; upper symptoms such as cough with hemoptysis; lower symptoms such as diarrhea with qi rebellion; fever accompanied by mental restlessness; pathological laughter; susceptibility to forgetfulness; and frequent fright. These are all diseases of the Heart and Small Intestine meridians (Figure 6).
The diseases indicated for needling the Yuan-Source point of the Small Intestine Meridian and the Luo-connecting point of its exterior counterpart are: swelling of the zygomatic region, jaw, and ears; aversion to cold alternating with fever; pain on the medial and lateral aspects of the shoulder, arm, elbow, and forearm; inability to turn due to pain; and severe low back pain as if broken.
