Jingxian (Convulsive Epilepsy due to Fright) is caused by being startled by strange objects, leading to the disorder of Shen Qi (Spirit and Vital Qi). During an attack, the patient protrudes the tongue, cries out urgently, and the complexion alternates between pale and red. The state during an attack resembles that of being hunted. Treatment can utilize Daqing Gao (Great Cyan Pill) for calming the Spirit and Zhenjing Wan (Fright-Calming Pill) to exert their effects.
[Note]
Children with excessive Liver Heat may occasionally be touched by pathogenic Fright, causing the Shen Qi to become chaotic, thereby forming a Xian syndrome (Epileptic seizure).
During an attack, the tongue protrudes, there is urgent crying, the complexion suddenly turns red or white, and there is fearfulness and restlessness, resembling the state of being hunted.
First administer Daqing Gao, followed by Zhenjing Wan, then the epileptic seizures will naturally subside.
(Daqing Gao) Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) 3 qian, Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma) 2 qian, Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) 1 qian (ground), Xiewei (Scorpio) 1 qian (de-toxicated),

The above ingredients are ground together into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form a paste. Dosage: older children 5 fen, younger children 3 fen, taken dissolved in Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction).

Tanxian (Phlegm Epilepsy) is characterized by abundant phlegm usually present in the body. During an attack, phlegm obstructs the throat, causing rapid breathing, fainting, and spitting up phlegm foam. Treatment involves using Yinian Jin (One Pinch Gold) and Untan Wan (Phlegm-Expelling Pill).
[Note]
Tanxian (Phlegm Epilepsy) occurs because children have excessive phlegm constitutionally, or it is triggered occasionally by Fright and Heat, thereby forming a Xian syndrome.
During an attack, phlegm-saliva obstructs the throat, causing rapid breathing and fainting, with saliva foaming from the mouth.
It is appropriate to first administer Yinian Jin to urgently purge the phlegm downward, and apply Zhuyi Untan Wan (Cinnabar-Coated Phlegm-Expelling Pill) externally/inhaled, so that the Qi flows smoothly, phlegm clears, and the epileptic seizures naturally stop.
(Yinian Jin) See formula under "Refusal to Suckle".
(Zhuyi Untan Wan) Mengshi (Lepidolite processed by calcination) 1 liang, Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) 5 qian, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 7 qian, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 1 liang. These are made into fine powder,
pelletized with water, coated with Cinnabar. Dosage varies according to the child's size, taken dissolved in plain boiled water.
