Shu Feng (Summerheat Wind, characterized by convulsions due to summerheat stirring up liver wind) presents with convulsions resembling Jing Feng (Wind Stroke/Convulsive Disorder), accompanied by irritability and thirst, fever with sweating, and yellow or red urine. Treatment should first employ Jiawei Xiangru Yin (Modified Elsholtzia Decoction), followed by Yulu San (Jade Dew Powder) to bring relief.
[Note]
Shu Feng refers to the condition where limbs twitch and spasm, resembling Jing Feng. It is caused by summerheat pathogenic factors attacking and inducing internal wind in the Liver. The symptoms include irritability and thirst, body heat with sweating, and dark yellow or reddish urine and stool. Initially, Jiawei Xiangru Yin should be used to disperse wind, followed by Yulu San to clear heat. Once the summerheat is resolved, the convulsions will cease naturally. One must not mistakenly treat it as Jing Feng.
(Jiawei Xiangru Yin / Modified Elsholtzia Decoction)
Ingredients: Xiangru (Moslae Herba), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Chao Biandou (Stir-fried Dolichos Lablab Seed), Jiang Chao Houpo (Ginger-processed Magnolia Bark), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix).
Administration: Decoct with Dengxincao (Junci Medulla water) for oral administration.
(Fang Ge / Formula Verse)
Jiawei Xiangru treats Shu Feng, combining Xiangru, Huanglian, and Biandou; adding ginger-processed Houpo and Qianghuo, decocted with Dengxincao for effective and steady results.

Section on Summerheat Syndromes
Shu Jue (Summerheat Collapse, sudden fainting due to summerheat disrupting qi) manifests as dizziness, vertigo, and unconsciousness. This occurs when underlying Qi deficiency is compounded by Phlegm rushing upward to the Heart. For deficiency patterns, Qing Shu Yi Qi Tang (Clear Summerheat and Boost Qi Decoction) is indicated; for patterns with Phlegm, Chen Sha Yi Yuan San (Cinnabar Yi Yuan Powder) and Bao Long Wan (Dragon-Holding Pill) are both suitable.
[Note]
The syndrome of Shu Jue involves mental confusion and loss of consciousness. It arises because the patient has a constitutional deficiency of Yuan Qi (Original Qi), allowing summerheat to rush into the Heart, or carrying Phlegm upward, leading to severe mental cloudiness. Deficiency patterns are treated with Qing Shu Yi Qi Tang. Excess patterns (carrying Phlegm) are treated with Chen Sha Yi Yuan San combined with Bao Long Wan.
