[Prescription Verse] The name "Mao Yan Chuang" (Cat's Eye Eruption) is derived from its shape resembling a cat's eye. It presents with intermittent pain and itching, without blood or pus. Its radiance flickers like a cat's eye. This condition arises from the condensation of damp-heat in the Spleen Meridian combined with external cold stagnation.
[Annotation] This syndrome is also known as "Han Chuang" (Cold Eruption). It typically appears on the face and all over the body. It is caused by long-standing damp-heat stagnation in the Spleen Meridian, compounded by external cold condensation. Initially, it resembles a cat's eye with flickering luster, lacking pus or blood, characterized only by variable pain and itching. Over time, lesions may appear near the tibia. It is appropriate to take Qing Ji Shen Shi Tang (Clear Muscle and Drain Dampness Decoction) internally, apply Zhen Jun Miao Tie San externally, consume more chicken, fish, garlic, and leeks, while avoiding catfish, crab, and shrimp for recovery.
Formula: Qing Ji Shen Shi Tang (Clear Muscle and Drain Dampness Decoction)
Composition: Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, soaked in rice water and stir-fried), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, stir-fried with ginger juice), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, raw), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, soil-stir-fried), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, raw), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma). Each herb is used in an amount of one qian.
Preparation: Add two zhong of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and twenty roots of Jixin (Junci Medulla). Decoct until reduced to eight fen. Take warm.
[Prescription Verse] Qing Ji Shen Shi Tang treats Mao Yan Chuang (Cat's Eye Eruption), where damp-heat in the Spleen is stagnant and entangled by external cold. The formula incorporates principles of Ping Wei San along with Chai Hu, Mu Tong, Ze Xie, and Bai Zhi, plus Sheng Ma, Bai Zhu, Zhi Zi, and Huang Lian.
Another Formula: Zhen Jun Miao Tie San (See Chapter on Swelling and Ulceration)
[Prescription Verse] Yu Ji Chuang (Fish Spine Eruption) often develops in individuals with deficiency constitutions, where damp-heat pathogens condense in the skin. Due to deficiency-cold, the blister fluid exudes slowly; moxibustion can transform this into thick pus, thereby generating Yang Qi.
[Annotation] This syndrome resembles a fish spine. It occurs in persons with deficient and cold Yang who contract damp-heat pathogens leading to stagnation. It frequently arises between muscles and bones. Because of deficient and cold Yang, the onset is slow, manifesting only as firm, painful skin nodules. Initially, white blisters appear, gradually enlarging to resemble a fish spine, breaking to discharge yellow fluid. Normal pus formation is delayed. In early treatment, regardless of whether the lesion has ruptured, it is suitable to use sliced garlic for moxibustion to unblock Yang Qi. Externally, apply Zhen Jun Miao Tie San mixed with sesame oil. Internally, it is suitable to take Nei Bu Shi Xuan San (Tonify Interior and Ten-Accumulations Powder). The emergence of thick pus with bright color indicates a favorable prognosis (Shun). If moxibustion is ineffective, and the area becomes dark, necrotic, discharging foul-smelling fluid, it indicates an unfavorable prognosis (Ni). Subsequent internal and external treatments should follow the guidelines in the Chapter on Carbuncles, Ulcers, and Ulcerations.
