[Formula Composition]
*Wangbuliuxing* (Collected on the 8th day of the 8th lunar month) 10 parts; *Shuodi Xieye* (Leaves of *Acalypha australis*, collected on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month) 10 parts; *Sanggen Dongnanpi* (White bark of the southeast root of *Morus alba*, collected on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month) 10 parts; *Gancao* (Licorice Root) 18 parts; *Chuanjiao* (Sichuan Pepper, with black spots and closed pods removed, and sweat removed) 3 parts; *Huangqin* (Scutellaria Root) 2 parts; *Ganjiang* (Dried Ginger) 2 parts; *Shaoyao* (Peony Root) 2 parts; *Houpo* (Magnolia Bark) 2 parts.

Among these nine herbs, the first three (*Wangbuliuxing*, *Shuodi Xieye*, and *Sanggen Dongnanpi*) are to be burned to charcoal while retaining their nature, being careful not to turn them completely into ash. They should be separately pounded and sifted, then mixed together to form a powder. The dosage is one "fangcun bi" (a measure equivalent to the size of a square inch spoon) per administration. For minor wounds, apply the powder topically; for major wounds, administer orally; it can also be taken postpartum. In cases of wind-cold, do not use the southeast root bark of mulberry; instead, the first three ingredients should be dried in the shade for one hundred days.

[Ji Jie - Collected Exegesis]
Xu Bin stated: This is a general formula for treating Jin Chuang (metal-induced traumatic injuries). *Wangbuliuxing* has a bitter and neutral nature, capable of promoting blood circulation and unblocking collaterals; thus, it can stop bleeding from trauma and relieve pain. *Shuodi* also promotes Qi and Blood circulation and is particularly effective in opening obstructions; muscles throughout the body are governed by the Lung. *Sanggen Baipi* (Mulberry Root Bark) is most beneficial for Lung Qi. The southeast root receives sunlight, preserving its vital energy more fully, thereby restoring the Qi that governs muscles. Therefore, these three herbs are used in large quantities as the Sovereign (Jun) herbs. *Gancao* detoxifies and harmonizes Ying (Nutritive) Qi, used in a relatively large quantity as the Minister (Chen) herb. *Jiaojiao* (Pepper) and *Ganjiang* warm and nourish the Yang Qi in the chest; *Houpo* disperses internal Qi stagnation; *Huangqin* and *Shaoyao* clear heat in the Yin aspect, serving as Assistant (Zuo) herbs. If wind-cold is present, this belongs to pathogenic factors lodging in the meridians. Since *Sanggen Baipi* only benefits Lung Qi and cannot expel external pathogens, it is excluded.

Jinying Chuang (Exudative dermatitis/ulcer), if it spreads from the mouth towards the limbs, is treatable, as the pathogen moves from the interior to the exterior. If it spreads from the limbs towards the mouth, it is untreatable, as the pathogen moves from the exterior to the interior.

[Zhu - Annotation]
Regarding Jinying Chuang, "Jin" refers to gradual infiltration, and "Yin" refers to incessant flow, meaning this ulcer infiltrates and persists continuously. Spreading from the mouth to the limbs indicates a mild condition because the pathogen exits from the interior to the exterior, hence it is considered treatable. Spreading from the limbs to the mouth indicates a severe condition because the pathogen enters from the exterior to the interior, hence it is considered untreatable. Jinying is similar to modern-day leprosy or similar malignant diseases.

For Jinying Chuang, Huanglian Fen (Coptis Powder) is the primary treatment.

[An - Commentary]
This clause follows the previous one to clarify the treatment method, but the specific composition of the Huanglian Fen formula is missing due to damage to the bamboo slips.

[Ji Jie - Collected Exegesis]
You Yi stated: The exact formula for Huanglian Fen is not recorded, but the general idea is that this is a disease caused by damp-heat infiltration. Therefore, only *Huanglian* (Coptis Rhizome) is taken, ground into powder, and applied topically. Its bitterness dries dampness, and its cold nature clears heat.
