[Prescription Verse] Ear-root carbuncle (Eergen Du) initially presents as a phlegm nodule, swelling like a crouching rat with burning redness and pain. It is caused by wind-fire in the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) and anger qi rushing up from the Gallbladder channel. The swelling appears suddenly and ulcerates quickly; it is not a deep abscess or carbuncle.
[Annotation] This condition arises behind the ear. Initially, it resembles a phlegm nodule, gradually increasing in swelling to resemble a crouching rat, with burning redness and pain. It is formed by the accumulation of wind-fire in the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) and the upward rush of anger qi from the Gallbladder channel, leading to coagulation. However, this condition swells suddenly and ulcerates rapidly, has a shallow root, and heals easily, unlike carbuncles or deep abscesses which have severe momentum and toxicity. In the early stage, with alternating chills and fever, Jingfang Baidu San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Decoction) should be taken to induce sweating; if fever and pain are severe, Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Life-Protecting Powder) should be used to dissipate the swelling; once pus forms, Tou Nong San (Pus-Penetrating Powder) should be taken; for those with deficiency, Tuoli Tou Nong Tang (Supporting Interior and Penetrating Pus Decoction) is indicated. After ulceration, Hongling Yao (Red Spirit Medicine) should be sprinkled externally, followed by application of Taiyi Gao (Taiyi Plaster). Once the pus is exhausted, switch to applying Shengji Yuhong Gao (Muscle-Regenerating Jade Red Ointment) to promote tissue regeneration and wound closure. If the patient is deficient, with thin and clear pus or delayed wound contraction, Xiangbei Yangrong Tang (Aucklandia and Angelica Nourishing Nutritive Decoction) should be taken to tonify, leading to natural contraction.
Prescriptions: Xianfang Huoming Yin (see Swollen Ulcer Section); Jingfang Baidu San (see Neck Brain Carbuncle); Tou Nong San (see Swollen Ulcer Section); Tuoli Tou Nong Tang (see Anterior Brain Carbuncle); Hongling Yao, Shengji Yuhong Gao, Taiyi Gao (all see Ulcer Section); Xiangbei Yangrong Tang (see Head Stone Abscess).
[Prescription Verse] Yuzhen Ju (Jade Pillow Abscess) belongs to the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) channel. The etiology involves accumulated heat and wind pathogen invasion. The location is slightly above the Yu Zhen bone at the Naohu acupoint. High swelling indicates a favorable prognosis, while purple depression indicates an ominous one.
[Annotation] This condition is caused by accumulated heat in the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) channel combined with external wind pathogen coagulation. It occurs at the Naohu acupoint, slightly above the tip of the Yu Zhen bone. Initially, it is millet-sized, accompanied by numbness and itching, with alternating chills and fever, thirst, and constipation. It gradually becomes hard, large ones resembling eggplants, small ones resembling goose eggs, appearing red, vibrant, and highly swollen. Ulceration discharging thick pus indicates a favorable and smooth course; purple-dark depression with bloody discharge indicates a dangerous course. Initially, all cases should take Shenshou Weisheng Tang (Divine Grant Health Preservation Decoction) to dissipate and resolve; for deficiency cases, Tuoli Xiaodu San (Supporting Interior and Detoxifying Powder) is appropriate, with Chonghe Gao (Harmony Plaster) applied externally. All other internal and external treatment methods follow the protocols for carbuncles, abscesses, swollen ulcers, and open ulcers.
Prescriptions: Shenshou Weisheng Tang, Tuoli Xiaodu San, Chonghe Gao (see Swollen Ulcer Section).
