[Formula Song] Liver abscess is formed by indignation, depression, and rebellious Qi; swelling and pain occur at Qimen (LR14); sleep is disturbed with fright, hypochondriac fullness, and difficult urination; clearing the Liver and nourishing the Kidney achieves success.
[Note] This condition originates at Qimen (LR14), characterized by dull pain and slight swelling, causing distension and pain in both hypochondria, waking easily from fright when lying on the side, and difficulty in urination and defecation. It is caused by indignation and depression leading to rebellious Qi. Initially, Fuyuan Tongqi San (Restoring Vitality and Promoting Circulation Powder) is taken, followed by Chaihu Qinggan Tang (Bupleurum Decoction for Clearing the Liver); once pain and distension cease, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) is appropriate; if Spleen deficiency leads to poor appetite, Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) is added as an adjunct to nourish the Kidney and tonify the Spleen, achieving efficacy. Warm tonification and acupuncture are contraindicated.
Qimen (LR14), also known as the Front-Mu point of the Liver, is located 1.5 cun lateral to the nipple, and another 1.5 cun directly superior.
Formulas: Fuyuan Tongqi San (see Chapter on Swollen Ulcers); Chaihu Qinggan Tang (see Chapter on Boils of the Head and Temples); Liuwei Dihuang Wan (see Chapter on Facial Freckles); Bazhen Tang (see Chapter on Ulcerated Sores).

It is caused by blazing Heart fire combined with excessive alcohol intake and a preference for hot foods. Liangxue Yin (Blood-Cooling Decoction) is appropriate. For cases caused by alcohol toxicity, Shengma Gegen Tang (Kudzu and Cimicifuga Decoction) should be used. This condition is very rare, but treatment methods must be fully prepared.
