[Background Information]
Book: *Yizong Jinjian* (Golden Mirror of the Medical Tradition)
Author: Wu Qian
Dynasty: Qing
Chapter: Back / Lingyun Bone
Category: Medical Discourse
[Original Text to Process]
Section Title: Upper Compilation - External Treatment Methods
Classification: Dimensions of Bones from the *Ling Shu Jing* (Spiritual Pivot)
Attributes: [1] From the spinal bone (spine) down to the coccyx, there are twenty-one segments, with a total length of three chi. (Note: Lü bone refers to the spine. The spine is small externally but large internally; the reason humans can bear heavy loads is due to the robustness of this bone. There are twenty-four segments in the spine; the mention of twenty-one here excludes the three cervical segments.)
[2] The circumference of the waist is four chi and two cun.
Commentary, Formulas: Method for measuring the back:
[1] From the Dazhui acupoint to the coccyx, the total length is three chi.
[2] The upper seven segments each measure one cun, four fen, and one li, totaling nine cun, eight fen, and seven li.
[3] The middle seven segments each measure one cun, six fen, and one li, totaling one chi, one cun, two fen, and seven li.
[4] The fourteenth segment is level with the umbilicus.
[5] The lower seven segments each measure one cun, two fen, and six li, totaling eight cun, eight fen, and two li.
[6] The total is two chi, nine cun, nine fen, and six li; the remaining four li are omitted as fractions.
[7] Vertical measurements are based on this standard; horizontal measurements use the Middle Finger Same-Body Cun method.
[8] The internal width of the spine is one cun.
[9] Whenever it mentions "the second row is one cun and half a cun away from the spine" or "the third row is three cun away from the spine," these distances exclude the one-cun width of the spine itself, calculating purely based on one cun and half a cun, and three cun respectively. Therefore, the second row should actually be two cun, and the third row should actually be three cun and a half.
