23. Postpartum abdominal pain caused by the upward rush of accumulated blood stasis and masses is often due to cold wind invading after childbirth. Urgent administration of Yanhu San (Corydalis Rhizome Powder) can dispel the stasis; if left unresolved for a long time, it will form a blood mass (Xuejia). Additionally, cold hernia (Hanhan) also causes pain; Wuzhuyu Tang (Evodia Decoction) warms and disperses the cold without the need for purgative methods.
[Note] A hard mass in the postpartum abdomen that attacks with pain is mostly caused by wind-cold invading through deficiency after childbirth, leading to coagulation of blood stasis. It is appropriate to take Yansu San (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Powder) to dispel it. If it remains unresolved for a long time, it will inevitably form a blood mass (Xuejia). There is also the syndrome of cold hernia (Hanhan), which also causes attacking pain in the lower abdomen. This belongs to stagnation and obstruction caused by cold qi. It is appropriate to use Wuzhuyu Tang (Evodia Decoction) to warm and disperse the cold, allowing self-healing, without the need for purgation.
Wuzhuyu Tang (Evodia Decoction) Formula is found in Volume One.
24. Postpartum tendon spasms resembling chicken claws (commonly known as Chicken Claw Wind) are caused by blood deficiency and fluid damage followed by wind invasion. In cases without sweating, nourishing Ying (Nutritive Qi) while simultaneously dispersing pathogenic factors is indicated, using Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), and Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis). In cases with sweating, Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) added with Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), and Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla) is used to greatly tonify Ying blood.
[Note] Postpartum tendon spasms and pain, inability to stretch, commonly known as Chicken Claw Wind. All result from postpartum blood deficiency, failing to nourish the tendons, combined with wind invasion, thus causing spasms and pain. For those without sweat, it is appropriate to expel external pathogens while nourishing Ying, using Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), and Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis). For those with sweat, it is appropriate to use Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) added with Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), and Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla) to greatly tonify Ying blood.
Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) and Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) formulas are both found in Volume One.
25. Postpartum food stagnation causing epigastric fullness and oppression, aversion to food odors, gastric discomfort, and acid regurgitation. Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), and Suosha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) should be decocted together. If accompanied by vomiting, regurgitation, and phlegm-saliva, Er Chen Tang (Two Old Decoction) should be decocted for regulation.
[Note] Those who overconsume meat and noodles after childbirth and suffer dietary injury will inevitably experience chest and heart fullness, aversion to smelling food odors, mental restlessness and gastric discomfort, and acid regurgitation. It is appropriate to use Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), and Suosha (Amomi Fructus) to tonify and digest. If there is further vomiting and phlegm-saliva, it must be complicated by phlegm and fluid retention. It is appropriate to treat with modified Er Chen Tang (Two Old Decoction).
Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) is found in Volume One; Er Chen Tang (Two Old Decoction) is found in Volume Three.
