[1] The tarsus (foot dorsum) refers to the back of the foot, also known as "Zu Die," commonly called the instep. Its bones are those at the proximal joints of the toe phalanges.
[2] The causes of injury vary: one may fall from a height, be struck or crushed by heavy objects, or be trampled and rolled over by vehicles or horses.
[3] If only the muscles and tendons are injured, it is relatively easy to treat; however, if the bone structure itself is damaged, it is often difficult to cure.
<1> First, apply manual manipulation to gently rub and massage, allowing the bones to align and the tendons to relax;
<2> Wash the area with decoctions such as Haitongpi Tang (Phellodendri Cortex Decoction) or Baxian Xiaoyao Tang (Eight Immortals Free-and-Easy Decoction);
<3> Apply Wanning Gao (Ten Thousand Spirits Plaster);
<4> Administer internal medicine for relaxing sinews and relieving pain, as well as Jianbu Huqian Wan (Walking-Enhancing Tiger-Hiding Pill) and Bujin Wan (Tendon-Replenishing Pill).

[Upper Compilation: External Treatment Methods - Instrument Explanation]
[1] Yaozhu (Lumbar Support Column) consists of four pieces of Chinese fir wood, shaped like a shoulder pole, one cun wide and five fen thick. Their length is determined by the affected area. Holes are drilled on the sides, and they are connected by ropes.
[2] Explanation of Usage:
<1> For cases of lumbar sprain, strain, or qi stagnation, treat according to standard methods.
<2> If the lumbar vertebral segments are dislocated, muscle tissue is ruptured, and tendons are misaligned causing kyphosis (stooping), mix Dingtong San (Pain-Relieving Powder) with vinegar and apply it onto the Yaozhu. Arrange the columns alongside the spinal column according to the lesion site, ensuring they are straight. Then, place a thin mattress made of Qi Ai (Artemisia argyi) over the columns to protect against wind and cold. Secure tightly with a wide, long cloth belt wrapped around the front of the abdomen. Internal medication should be administered concurrently; self-healing will follow through regulation.
