[Prescription Song] An Ding (Dark Carbuncle) arises in the axilla, caused by Fire-Toxin of the Liver and Spleen channels, presenting with itching, pain, aversion to cold, fever, and limb stiffness. The color is purple-black; urgently pressing the Dingmen acupoint will bring relief.
[Annotation] This condition arises in the axilla, resulting from the accumulation of Fire-Toxin in the Liver and Spleen channels. It is hard and shaped like a nail head, accompanied by itching and pain, alternating chills and fever, stiffness of the four limbs, and a purple-black color. Patients may experience restlessness, nausea, vomiting, and pain radiating to half of the body. It is appropriate to take Mailing Dan (Wheat Spirit Pill). Secondly, urgently pressing the Dingmen acupoint internally and externally will lead to recovery.
Formula: Mailing Dan (See Swelling Ulcer Section)
[Prescription Song] Rib Abscess initially belongs to the Liver channel, formed by the knotting of Fire-Toxin and suppressed anger into a swelling. It is purple, painful, and can grow as large as a plum, apricot, or even a bowl. Urgent need for needle-lancing (Bian) to prevent internal attack.
[Annotation] This condition is also known as Jia Ying Ju (Clamp-Ying Abscess), arising between the ribs, caused by the aggregation of Fire-Toxin in the Liver channel and suppressed anger. Initially small like a plum or apricot, it gradually enlarges to the size of a cup, appearing purple, red, hot, and painful, extending to the shoulder and elbow. If on the left side, pain radiates to the right rib; if on the right, pain radiates to the left rib. Within twenty-one days, if pus breaks out thick and sticky, it is a favorable prognosis (Shun); if it does not break out by the due date, or if clear water flows after breaking out, it is an unfavorable prognosis (Ni). In the initial swelling stage, urgent lancing with a magnetic needle should be performed to release purple blood, thereby preventing toxin qi from attacking the interior; after lancing, if redness, swelling, and pain intensify, accompanied by restlessness, a full pulse, and vomiting, it indicates an Excess syndrome, and Shuangjie Guijin Wan (Double-Resolving Precious Gold Pill) should be taken to purge; if the swelling is hard and does not suppurate, Tou Nong San (Penetrating Pus Powder) should be taken; if the pulse is weak and vomiting occurs, this indicates Stomach Deficiency, and Xiangsha Liujunzi Tang (Aucklandia and Amomum Six Gentlemen Decoction) should be taken to tonify. There are also cases where pain damages Stomach Qi leading to vomiting, which is treated similarly to Stomach Deficiency; if vomiting is caused by contracting Cold-Evil or accidentally inhaling foul odors, even during the swelling phase, the primary treatment should be strengthening the Stomach and assisting Qi. Generally, vomiting during the swelling phase is due to internal invasion of toxin qi in one or two out of ten cases, and due to internal injury from retained fluids in eight or nine out of ten cases; only physicians should carefully differentiate these clinically when treating patients. When pus is ripe, use a horizontal needle to open and drain it; for other aspects, follow the treatment methods in the Ulcerative Ulcer Section.
Formulas: Shuangjie Guijin Wan, Tou Nong San (Both seen in Swelling Ulcer Section); Xiangsha Liujunzi Tang (Seen in Ulcerative Ulcer Section)
