According to the *Chanjing* (Classic of Childbirth): Note: Although there are diagrams for the method of a parturient woman sitting facing a specific direction, the text in the diagrams is often verbose and difficult to interpret precisely for application, leading to much confusion. Therefore, I have now compiled and selected practical records, all included in the diagrams for the twelve months, making all directions clear and easy to understand. All those giving birth should follow this method, rendering other divine diagrams unnecessary. However, this cannot be left unexplained, so it is recorded here as a standard example. The *Shengjing* (Classic of Life) states: A woman carries pregnancy for ten months, and by then the child is fully formed. She should conform to the laws of nature, absorb the qi of the earth, utilize the emptiness of heaven, avoid evil spirits, and await childbirth.
It also says: The Yellow Emperor said: The length of a person's life and their fortune or misfortune depend on the mother's orientation at birth. Tianyi (Heavenly One) and the Eight Deities govern childbirth and lactation. If the placenta is concealed without avoiding the great inauspicious positions of these deities, and if one fails to avoid and offends them, it may harm the mother and child; or harm the father; or although the child grows up, they may ultimately not live out their natural lifespan; or although the child becomes an adult, they will surely suffer from many illnesses; or the child may be poor and lowly; or the child may commit crimes; or the child may be separated from family; or the child may be unfilial; or the child may be lonely; or the child may be dull and foolish. One must be extremely cautious.
It further says: When a woman gives birth, she should first examine the Twelve-Month Divine Diagrams. By conforming to the movement of heavenly qi, she can face the places of "Ri Xu" (Sun Emptiness) and "Yue Kong" (Moon Void). It is known that heavenly qi travels through the Eight Deities daily. The directions where various deities reside must not be mutually conflicting, otherwise it brings great misfortune. If the place of Ri Xu is combined with evil spirits, one should face the directions of Tiandao (Heavenly Way) and Tiande (Heavenly Virtue) for auspiciousness, avoiding blame. Current note: The complex Twelve-Month Diagrams are not adopted due to their intricacy. Instead, only the directions where evil spirits reside are avoided, and the auspicious locations of heavenly qi movements, Ri Xu, Yue Kong, Tiandao, and Tiande are recorded for practical use.
In the first month, heavenly qi moves south. The parturient faces south, sits with her left knee on Bing (丙) ground, which is highly auspicious. (This is the place of Ri Xu and Yue De [Moon Virtue].)
Additionally, Tiandao is in Xin (辛), and Tiande is in Ding (丁). (These are also auspicious places.)
In the second month, heavenly qi moves west. The parturient faces west, sits with her right knee on Xin (辛) ground, which is highly auspicious. (Although there are no auspicious deities here, this book records it.)
Additionally, Yi (乙) and Ding (丁) places have no evil spirits and can be used.
In the third month, heavenly qi moves north. The parturient faces north, sits with her right knee on Gui (癸) ground, which is highly auspicious. (Although there are no auspicious deities here, this book records it.)
Additionally, Ri Xu, Tiandao, and Tiande are in Ren (壬); furthermore, Ding (丁) has no evil spirits, which is auspicious.
In the fourth month, heavenly qi moves west. The parturient faces west, sits with her left knee on Geng (庚) ground, which is highly auspicious. (This is the place of Ri Xu and Yue De.)
