The "Huangfu Mi Rescue Method" states: In spring, the manifestation of stone drug toxicity involves cold extremities; in summer, it manifests as shortness of breath; in autumn, as skin itching; and in winter, as chills.
These seasonal manifestations change unpredictably. The diseases caused by them can number in the thousands. Some cause physical abnormalities, with slight stiffness in the four limbs making flexion and extension difficult; some present with distension and fullness in the chest and hypochondrium. Some have an urge to dry heave; some have weak qi and do not wish to speak; some sleep but constantly desire to lie down; some suffer from intense cold, desiring thick clothing. For such symptoms, indicating that the drug toxicity is about to erupt severely, urgent detoxification is required. The methods include inducing sweating, physical activity, drinking alcohol, and consuming delicious food.
Some present with headache and eyes that are uncomfortable and unwilling to look at things; some have borborygmus (abdominal rumbling) like thunder, with frequent urination and defecation; some have hidden rashes on the body resembling wind-induced scratching; some feel pain like needle pricks; some experience severe fever that comes and goes suddenly; some have throat obstruction feeling similar to Taiyang disease (a syndrome characterized by exterior pathogenic invasion); some have nasal dryness as if wind is blowing into them. All such conditions are signs that the drug toxicity is about to manifest. One should quickly rise and walk, loosen clothing, and face the breeze, so the toxicity will resolve naturally.
If suffering from intense cold and trembling, resembling a patient with Taiyang disease, one should drink warm wine according to one's tolerance. It is beneficial to first wash the head, face, hands, and feet slightly with warm water, engage in walking or other activities to generate heat in the body, and then wipe the body with a towel soaked in cold water.
If there is borborygmus like thunder in the abdomen, drink one sheng (approx. 200ml) of cold water. If hungry, one may eat light food, remove head coverings and heavy garments, and reduce the felt blankets covering the stomach area.
If suffering merely from hot oppression and stuffiness with abdominal fullness and heart pain, one should drink warm wine, wash with cold water, wear thin clothes to maintain slight warmth, and the heat will stop naturally.
If suffering from heat in the abdomen and back, localized to an area the size of a hand holding a cup or plate, apply cold stones to the heated areas for moxibustion-like warming (here implying cooling compress via cold stone), and recovery will follow immediately.
If presenting with headache, stiff neck, painful eyes, and mental restlessness, bathing with water will lead to recovery.
The "Xue Yao Discourse" states: The nature of metal and stone drugs is hard, rigid, and fierce, yet they possess properties of purity mixed with impure dregs.
Huangfu Mi said: There are ten taboos for those taking stone drugs:
First taboo: Anger Second taboo: Sorrow/Worry Third taboo: Crying Fourth taboo: Holding back urination and defecation Fifth taboo: Enduring hunger Sixth taboo: Enduring thirst
Seventh taboo: Enduring heat Eighth taboo: Enduring cold Ninth taboo: Overexertion Tenth taboo: Sitting still without movement
If these taboos are violated, the drug's action will not circulate properly, leading to accumulation and knotting. As long as one remains calm, harmonizes the four limbs, and avoids intense reading or excessive mental exertion, one can ensure the toxicity does not erupt, and all ailments will heal.
Cao She discussed: Regarding the taboos for drug-induced illnesses (Stone Drug Disease): First, one should not engage in sad thoughts or crying; second, one should not overexert muscles and sinews through labor; third, one should not expose oneself to the fierce midday sun; fourth, one should not become extremely angry, resentful, worried, or fearful; fifth, one should not wear hot clothes or eat hot foods; sixth, one should not take hot-natured medicines or undergo acupuncture; seventh, one should not eat cakes/biscuits; eighth, millet porridge and sheep cheese contain heat properties, so one should not consume them.
The "Pang Shi Discourse" states: Those who take herbal or mineral powders must not undergo moxibustion or acupuncture on their bodies, as this easily leads to inflammation, carbuncles, and sores.
