The *Treatise on Taking Minerals* states: According to the legend of the Eight Immortals, Jiangxue (Crimson Snow) can treat various diseases. The Jiangxue formula taught by Master Baogong to Prince Huainan is precisely this one. Master Baogong said, "If you obtain this formula, you will not suffer premature or violent death; its efficacy is incomparably miraculous." Mr. Dahe named it Tongzhong San (Universal Middle Powder) and held this formula in high regard, administering only one he (a unit of volume) at a time and presenting it as tribute. He also frequently advised others to take it. Some people in the world stole this formula and prepared it themselves, commonly calling it Hongxue (Red Snow). However, none of them grasped the essential techniques, nor did they receive oral transmission from a master. Some lacked certain medicinal ingredients, the dosages were inconsistent, or the mixing was improper, and the decoction and refining process was excessive. Consequently, using it to treat illnesses often proved ineffective. Herein, the quantities and dosages of the herbs, along with the methods for preparation in the four seasons and the key oral instructions, are fully recorded. The main indications, administration methods, and contraindications are detailed below. Those preparing it must not arbitrarily add or subtract ingredients, so as not to harm future users. Excessive decoction and refining will impair the medicinal power. These formulations are based on classical prescriptions and follow the master's oral teachings, thereby avoiding the worry of premature death and truly representing the most crucial method for preserving life. They should be treasured and kept secret; do not disclose them lightly. Do not transmit them recklessly to those who are not initiated. The conditions treated are as follows: It treats all fevers caused by Dan Shi (mineral pills), Tian Xing Shi Xing (epidemic diseases), Wen Nue (warm malaria), Yi Ji (plague-like diseases), Yong Ju Fa Bei (carbuncles and sores on the back), Shang Qi Ke Sou (rebellious qi and cough), Xiang Gang Jiao Feng Du (Hong Kong foot wind toxicity, i.e., beriberi with wind-toxicity symptoms), Fei Qi Fei Yong (lung qi stagnation and lung abscess), sticky nasal discharge and saliva, Tou Feng Xuan Fen (head wind with dizziness and irritability), facial and eye edema, Fu Re in the chest and heart, Gu Re Lao Re (bone fever and consumptive fever), dry mouth and bad breath, Re Feng Chong Shang (wind-heat rushing upward), red and painful eyes, paralysis of the four limbs, Xin Song Jing Kuang (palpitations and manic delirium), confusion and erroneous speech, painful joints, hot skin sores, lethargy and excessive sleep, Chi Bai Re Li (dysentery with red and white stools), obstruction of urination and defecation, and antidotes for drug, food, and alcohol poisoning.
For those suffering from the aforementioned conditions, administer with water.
For Qi Jie Ju (stagnation of qi accumulation), Xin Zhang Man Fu (chest and abdominal fullness), Su Shi Bu Xiao (undigested food retention), Tan Shui Ji Ju (accumulation of phlegm and fluid), Cu Yan Ou Tu (vomiting due to sour regurgitation), Chan Hou Xue Yun (postpartum blood syncope), Zhong Feng Men Jue (stroke with coma), Chan Hou Re Bing (postpartum febrile disease), Zhui Duo Xu Xue (traumatic blood stasis from falls),
For those suffering from the aforementioned conditions, administer with wine.
It is also stated: If the condition matches the indication, take one spoonful of Jiangxue, dissolve it in two large he of fresh cold water mixed with honey water, or simply add it to water, allow it to dissolve, and take it in one dose.
Currently, according to the *Wai Tai Mi Yao*: After taking mineral pills, if one feels intense heat, one may take Zi Xue (Purple Snow), Jin Shi Ling (Mineral Ice), Jiangxue (Crimson Snow), or Bai Xue (White Snow). Take half a da sheng (large volume unit), grind one da liang (large weight unit) into powder using a porcelain mortar, and take it in one dose after bathing in fragrant water. And so on.
Furthermore, contemporary individuals adjust the dosage according to their physical strength, taking either three or four liang, or five or six liang, finely ground and taken on an empty stomach. Additionally, while this formula specifies taboos for the days of preparation, it does not specify taboos for the time of administration. However, since the formula contains Cinnabar (Zhusha), Licorice Root (Gancao), and Sophora Flower (Huaihua), one should avoid consuming blood products, Kelp (Haizao), and pork. Private notes also record that pregnant women must not take this medicine.
