According to *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases), when human skin is deficient, it is invaded by wind-cold pathogens, resulting in *yin zhen* (hidden urticaria/rash). If cold predominates, the rash appears red; if wind predominates, it appears white. In severe cases, itching and pain occur.
*Ge Shi Fang* (Formulas by Ge Hong) records: Sudden contraction of wind while scratching hidden urticaria can cause sores to form with exudate. It begins with itching and progresses to pain, accompanied by unbearable restlessness. Prescription: Heat a stone until red-hot, quench it in a small amount of water, add several *he* (a unit of volume) of salt, and wash/soak the affected area while hot.
Another prescription: Chop approximately two *dou* of mulberry bark, boil until thick and hot, and use for bathing.
Another prescription: Wash the affected area with salt water, then apply *li* (Chenopodium album) leaves.
Another prescription: Mash *shen huo* (Artemisia argyi or similar herb) with fermented soybeans (*chi*) and apply as a poultice.
*Yi Men Fang* (Medical Gate Formulas) states: Bathing with decoction of *shuo* (Achyranthes bidentata) mixed with a little wine yields excellent results.
*Liu Juanzi Gui Yi Fang* (Liu Juanzi's Ghost Remnant Formulas) treats ear and body hidden urticaria with sores using the following formula:
Radix Sanguisorbae (3 liang), Rhizoma Coptidis (2 liang), Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (4 liang), Cortex Phellodendri (4 liang), Radix Sophorae Flavescentis (8 liang), Radix Glycyrrhizae (6 liang), Radix Chuanxiong (dosage omitted in source).
Boil these seven ingredients in six *sheng* of water until reduced to three and a half *sheng*, and use for washing/bathing.
*Meng Shen Shi Jing* (Dietary Classic by Meng Shen) states: Boil stems of *ning* (likely Tribulus terrestris stem) alone and use for bathing.
Another prescription: *Chongwei* (Herba Leonuri Japonici) can be boiled into a bath solution.
Another prescription: Boil Adzuki beans, take the juice, let it cool, and wash with it. No more than three to four times are needed.
Another prescription: Mash *fan lou* (likely a type of plant, possibly related to *Fritillaria* or local herb) and apply as a compress.
*Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* states: All forms of *lai* disease (leprosy-like chronic dermatoses) arise from evil wind pathogens and violation of taboos. Initially, one may feel numbness in the skin, or intense itching like insects crawling. There are also black *lai* and white *lai*. The descriptions of various *lai* conditions are not detailed in this book due to their complexity.
It further states: Sleeping outdoors while intoxicated may unfortunately lead to *lai* disease.
*Lu Yan Fang* (Verified Formulas) mentions methods for five types of *lai* and eight types of wind: 1. Wood *lai*, 2. Stone *lai*, 3. Wind *lai*, 4. Water *lai*, 5. Boiling *lai*.
*Ge Shi Fang* states that there are eight types of *lai* disease, etc.
Prescription for treating White *Lai* and Black *Lai*:
