The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: Dysentery with red and white discharge is caused by a disharmony of cold and heat. Heat invades the blood level, causing blood to seep into the intestinal cavity, where it mixes with intestinal fluids and is discharged together. In severe cases...
The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) provides the Wenspi Tang (Warming Spleen Decoction) for treating chronic dysentery with red and white discharge persisting for years, as well as cholera-like conditions with cold accumulation that fails to dissipate:
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 4 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 2 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang), Jiangjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 2 liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, one large piece).
These five ingredients are decocted in six sheng of water until two and a half sheng remain. The decoction is divided into three doses.
It further states: A miraculous prescription for treating chronic dysentery persisting for thirty years: Take the bark of Pinus densiflora (Chisongpishui), remove the outer rough bark, take one sheng, grind into powder, mix with one sheng of millet gruel, and take orally. Administer three times daily; do not exceed one dose per administration...
The *Lu Yan Fang* provides a formula using Puhuang (Lygodii Spora, 2 qianbi) and Jiangjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 2 qianbi) for treating chronic red and white dysentery.
Combine these two herbs and take orally with one sheng of heated wine. Recovery typically occurs within four or five doses; this method has proven highly effective.
The *Ji Yao Fang* offers a prescription for dysentery persisting for thirty years:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 5 liang), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 2 liang), Jiangjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 2 liang), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, 2 liang), Shiliupi (Punicae Granati Pericarpium, 2 liang), Aiye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium, 3 liang).
Decoct these ingredients in seven sheng of water until two sheng remain. Divide into two doses.
The *Suishi Fang* treats chronic red and white dysentery lasting years without healing, characterized by abdominal pain as if twisted by knives, or hematochezia, regardless of whether it is red, white, or grain-type dysentery:
Baifuling (Poria, 4 da liang), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 4 da liang), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, 4 da liang), Lingyangjiaoxie (Antilopis Cornu, 3 liang, stir-fried).
Grind and sieve the above ingredients, mix with honey to form pills the size of wutong seeds. Take fifty pills orally with cold wine, gradually increasing to one hundred pills, twice daily.
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: When the intestines are deficient and cold qi invades, it clashes within the intestinal cavity, causing fluids to coagulate and stagnate, forming white mucus. This condition is termed "Bai Zhi Li" (White Stagnant Dysentery).
The *Qianjin Fang* provides a prescription for Bai Zhi Li:
Cangmi (Common Rice, 3 sheng), water six sheng. Decoct until three sheng remain. When the rice is thoroughly cooked, strain to obtain the thick juice, and take two sheng.
The *Fan Wang Fang* treats red and white stagnant dysentery occurring dozens of times day and night:
Wumei (Mume Fructus) [peel obtained by cutting, 3 liang, roasted over fire until dry], Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 3 liang).
Grind these two ingredients together and sieve. Mix with honey to form pills the size of wutong seeds. Take ten pills in the morning. If ineffective, slightly increase the dose up to twenty or thirty pills. It may be taken six or seven times day and night.
The *Duan Ju Fang* treats persistent mild cold-type red and white stagnant dysentery that turns into black-red bloody fluid resembling rotten fish intestines, accompanied by abdominal pain, emaciation, and inability to eat:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 4 liang), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, 3 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 liang), Shiliqiao (Punicae Granati Pericarpium, 2 liang).

Chishizhi (Halloysit Rubra, 1 sheng), Wumei (Mume Fructus, 30 pieces), Jiangjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 3 liang).

Another prescription: Decoct Caulis Salviae Miltiorrhizae (Shuweicao) strongly until it resembles thin maltose syrup. Take five he to one sheng, three times daily. For red dysentery, use red flowers; for white dysentery, use white flowers, which is preferable.
