According to the *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases), the condition of Yunmen (syncope with oppression) is characterized by mental restlessness and a critical weakness of breath. It may also result from excessive blood loss after childbirth or from extremely scanty lochia discharge, both of which can lead to Yunmen.
If excessive blood loss during childbirth leads to severe blood deficiency and extreme Qi deficiency, resulting in Yunmen, the symptoms are merely mental restlessness and oppression. However, if lochia discharge is insufficient and Qi rebels upward, blood follows the rebellious Qi to obstruct the Heart orifice, also causing Yunmen; in this case, there is mental restlessness and oppression accompanied by chest fullness and rapid breathing. These two conditions are distinct. This is also their clinical manifestation. By observing whether the amount of postpartum bleeding is large or small, one can predict whether Yunmen will occur. During delivery, care must be taken regarding sitting, standing, and lying positions. If taboos are violated, Yunmen is likely to occur.
The *Jingxin Fang* states: To treat sudden fainting, sweating, and loss of recognition after childbirth, which is caused by acute deficiency:
Apply vinegar to the mouth and nose, place vinegar nearby for inhalation, and drink it slowly. This is considered an excellent method. (Note: The *Zimu Milu* says: If one feels faint, spray vinegar on the face; upon recovery, drink vinegar.)
Another prescription: Break an egg and swallow it to regain consciousness.
It is also said: If the patient does not wake up, administer one sheng of urine from a male child into the mouth; once ingested, the effect is very good.
It is further stated: If the patient does not wake up even after taking the egg, urgently administer one sheng of bamboo sap, divided into doses of five ge per administration.
The *Qianjin Fang* provides a prescription for treating postpartum blood syncope, chest oppression, and critical Qi deficiency:
Take one sheng of vinegar, mix it with a quantity of postpartum blood equivalent to the size of a jujube pit, ingest it, and take flour paste concurrently.
Another prescription: Stir-fry soybeans until smoke ceases and they are hot, pour one sheng of clear wine over them, catch the resulting liquid, and drink it.
The *Ge Shi Fang* provides a prescription for treating rebellious Qi and Blood, mental restlessness, and chest fullness:
Take one sheng of fresh bamboo skin, add three sheng of water, decoct to obtain one and a half sheng, and divide into three doses.
The *Chan Jing* provides a prescription for treating postpartum chest oppression and inability to open the eyes:
Grind adzuki beans into powder, mix with flowing water from the east, and administer one fangcun bi per dose.
The *Seng Shen Fang* provides a prescription for treating postpartum chest oppression and abdominal pain:
Take one sheng of juice from fresh Rehmannia root (*Sheng Dihuang*), mix with three ge of wine, warm, and ingest. (Note: The *Boji Anzhong Fang* does not include wine.)
The *Jiyan Fang* provides a prescription for treating postpartum chest oppression and inability to open the eyes:
Take hair from the vertex of the head, approximately the width of two fingers, pull it firmly, and the eyes will open.
The *Meng Shen Fang* provides a prescription for treating postpartum blood syncope, chest oppression, and critical Qi deficiency:
Apply a paste made of cold water and flour to the face to regain consciousness.
The *Boji Anzhong Fang* states: For treating postpartum chest oppression, mutism, irritability, and fever:
Rehmannia root juice (*Dihuang Zhi*) (five ge), Angelica sinensis (*Danggui*) (one liang, powdered), clear wine (five ge), ginger juice (two ge).
Combine the above ingredients with one sheng of urine from a young boy, decoct together, strain, and divide into doses for administration.
The *Zimu Milu* states: For postpartum coma with unconsciousness, cold lips and mouth, absent pulse, dark blue blood color, and muteness, which is attributed to attack by a "fainting ghost" causing Qi and Blood to rush upward to the Heart:
Take two ge of vinegar and one egg. Break the egg into a clay vessel first, boil the vinegar once, pour the vinegar into the egg, stir thoroughly, and have the parturient woman consume it all at once; she will stabilize immediately.
