The *Bingyuan Lun* (Treatise on the Origins and Manifestations of Diseases) states: Heart and abdominal pain arises from the weakness of the fu and zang organs, allowing wind-cold pathogenic factors to lodge within. When the pathogenic factor erupts, it clashes with the healthy qi.
If the pathogen rushes upward to the heart, it causes heart pain; if it attacks downward to the abdomen, it causes abdominal pain, with mutual attack between the upper and lower regions. Consequently, there is severe cramping pain in the heart and abdomen, and the breath cannot be regulated.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Formulas by Master Ge) states: For all cases of heart and abdominal pain, if they are not due to sudden evil or huoluan (cholera-like syndrome), they are caused by accumulated cold or heat pathogens.
