The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: Regarding "E Rou" (Malignant Flesh), a fleshy protuberance suddenly appears within the body, resembling a red bean in size. It grows slender and long, comparable to the size of a cow or horse's udder, and its shape resembles that of a rooster's comb. It is painless. If left untreated for a long time, it will continue to grow indefinitely. This condition arises from exposure to pathogenic wind during spring and winter; the wind enters the muscles, causing blood stasis to accumulate and form the lesion.
The *Duanju Fang* (Short Formulas) states: There is a disease called "E Rou" (Malignant Flesh), where a fleshy protuberance suddenly emerges from the body like a red bean, continuously pushing outward without stopping. It is as large as a cow or horse's udder and shaped like a rooster's comb. If not treated, it will self-propel and grow incessantly, yet it remains neither painful nor itchy. This results from pathogenic wind invading the muscle channels during spring and winter, transforming into this ailment.
Treatment should involve taking Loulu Tang (Cistanche Decoction) internally, and externally cauterizing the area with a heated iron tool daily until it becomes charred. After cauterization, apply Shengma Gao (Cimicifuga Unguent); recovery will occur after several days. (Note: Loulu Tang and Shengma Gao are found in the section treating Dan Du [Carbuncle].)
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Regarding "E Mai" (Malignant Veins), red collaterals suddenly appear within the body. The veins rise and cluster together, resembling dead earthworms. They appear as if fluid is present within the vessels, varying in length, manifesting along the course of the collateral channels. This is caused by pathogenic wind entering the collaterals during spring and winter, leading to blood stasis and coagulation.
The *Duanju Fang* provides a formula for treating E Mai Bing (Malignant Vein Disease):
It is suitable to take Wuxiang Liaoqiao Tang (Five-Aromatic Forsythia Decoction) and Zhuli Tang (Bamboo Sap Decoction) to expel malignant blood, and apply Danshen Gao (Salvia Miltiorrhiza Unguent). Recovery will occur after several days. Alternatively, white male chicken droppings can be applied topically. (This matches the *Jiyan Fang*.)
The *Liu Juanzi Fang* provides a formula for treating E Mai Zhongdu (Malignant Vein Swelling and Toxicity):
Wushan (2 liang), Shengma (2 liang, use 1 liang raw), Zhizi (14 seeds, broken open).
Cut these three herbs, boil in 3 sheng of wine to obtain 1.5 sheng of liquid. Divide into two doses. Apply the dregs to the swelling; this is very effective.
It also states: Shengma Tang (Cimicifuga Decoction) for treating E Mai Duzhong (Malignant Vein Toxic Swelling):
Shengma (1 liang), Wu Zhu Yu (1 liang), Xunlu Xiang (Frankincense) (2 liang), Jixiang She (1 liang), Xionghuang (Realgar) (1 liang), Biejia (Tartar Testudinis) (1 liang, roasted), Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 liang), Wushan (3 liang), Qingmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (1 liang).
Boil these nine herbs in 7 sheng of water to obtain 2.5 sheng of liquid. When the temperature is suitable, divide into three doses. Take them at intervals equivalent to walking one li. This is highly effective for treating vein swelling. (Note: Shengma Tang, as cited in the *Duanju* for treating Dan Du [Carbuncle], contains different herbal ingredients.)
