The *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: Bao Zheng (sudden onset abdominal mass disorder) arises from deficiency of Zang-Fu Qi, consumption of cold and raw foods. Since the Zang-Fu are inherently weak, they cannot digest these foods, leading to stagnation and aggregation into masses.
The *Ji Yao Fang* (Essential Formulas) treats sudden Bao Zheng, characterized by a hard, stone-like mass in the abdomen, stabbing pain, and day-and-night crying and calling out. Without treatment, death occurs within one hundred days. Formula: Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 8 ounces), Po Xiao (Natrii Sulfas). The above ingredients: first pound Da Huang into powder, then mix with Po Xiao. Combine with honey until uniform. Simmer in a copper vessel over water bath until suitable for pill formation. Shape into pills the size of Sophora seeds.
Wang Ang notes: The *Ge Shi Fang* (Ge's Formulas) treats sudden Bao Zheng, characterized by a hard, stone-like mass in the abdomen, stabbing pain, and day-and-night crying and calling out. Without treatment, death occurs within one hundred days. Formula: Take two catties of Niuxi Gen (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), dry it slightly. Soak in one dou of wine. Seal the container tightly. Place entirely in hot ashes to warm it, allowing the medicinal properties to extract. Take before meals.
Another formula: Use Suo Dan Gen (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma) using the same method; this is even better.
Another formula: Take a large amount of Shang Lu Gen (Phytolaccae Radix), pound and steam it. Place on the abdomen with fresh cloth, spread the medicine on the cloth, cover with clothing. Replace when cool, without rest during day or night. (The above content is consistent with *Qian Jin Fang* and *Ji Yan Fang*.)
Another formula: Take one sheng of Hu Zhang Gen (Polygoni Cuspidati Radix), pound dry and soak in wine. Drink this wine, starting from a small amount, three times a day is best. This wine for treating Zheng Ji (accumulation disorders) has efficacy surpassing major medicines.
The *Xin Lu Fang* (Newly Recorded Formulas) treats Bao Zheng, where the mass is hard and located under the heart and hypochondrium, accompanied by cough and rebellious Qi, inability to eat, or continuous vomiting after eating. Formula: Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, three sheng), crush it. Mix with wine and boil until cooked. Wrap in cloth and apply as a hot compress to the Zheng area. When cool, stir-fry again and reapply. The Zheng should move position and then be expelled.
It also says: For Bao Zheng that is hard, distended like stone, and causes pain nearly causing death: Take soil from mouse burrows and millet chaff. Mix equal parts. Stir-fry together. Apply hot compress all over the affected area until healed.
Another formula: Using only soil from mouse burrows is also good.
Another formula: Fu Long Gan (Caulis Longii Fictilii / Hearth Earth) used as in the previous formula.
Another formula: If the disease is in the upper part, administer emetic drugs to remove it; if the disease is in the lower part, appropriate to treat with purgative methods.
The *Ben Cao Ji Yi* (Doubts on Materia Medica) states: Pound Shao Cao (Cyperus Rotundus) to extract juice and take the dried powder orally.
