The *Bingyuan Lun* (Treatise on the Origins and Manifestations of Diseases) states: Qi pain refers to a sudden onset of pain in one specific area of the body, occurring at regular intervals. When the pain flares up, there is slight heat; when the pain subsides, the affected area feels as if covered by ice or frost, hence it is called "Qi pain." This condition also arises because the body's constitution is deficient and invaded by Wind pathogenic factors; when confronted with Cold pathogenic factors, the pathogens are constrained and unable to exit the body.
The *Duanju Fang* (Short Formula Prescriptions) states: There is a disease called Qi pain, where a sudden pain occurs in one part of the body, resembling the sensation of being slapped, which is unbearable. The pain may wander left and right within the body, occurring at specific times. During an attack, there is slight heat; when the pain is quiet, the area feels as if subjected to cold water, frost, or snow. All these cases result from contracting warm winds (warm pathogens) during winter, and then being constrained by sudden cold and chill in spring. Instead of developing into Warm Disease, it transforms into Qi pain.
It is advisable to first administer several doses of Wuxiang Liaoqiao Tang (Five-Aromatic Forsythia Decoction) and Zhuli Tang (Bamboo Juice Decoction), apply Danshen Gao (Salvia Ointment), and use willow bark boiled in white wine for warm compresses. If red spots appear on the skin, bloodletting should be performed. During this period, Baiwei San (Cynanchum Powder) should be taken.
Xiao Zhuli Tang (Minor Bamboo Juice Decoction) for Treating Qi Pain:
Dan Zhuli (Light Green Bamboo Juice, 2 Sheng) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 2 Liang) Xingren (Apricot Seed, 2 Liang) Yinyu (Ilex Leaf, 0.5 Liang) Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 0.5 Liang) Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, 2 Liang) Muganji (Stephania Tetrandra Root, 2 Liang) Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, 2 Liang) Qinjiao (Gentiana Macrophylla Root, 2 Liang) Fuling (Poria, 3 Liang) Mahuang (Ephedra Herb, 1 Liang) Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens Root, 2 Liang) Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange, 2 Liang) Shaoyao (Peony Root, 2 Liang) Gancao (Licorice Root, 2 Liang)
These fifteen ingredients are cut into pieces, decocted in 9 Sheng of water until reduced by half, then bamboo juice is added. It is further decocted to obtain 3 Sheng of liquid, divided into four doses. Younger or weaker individuals should divide it into five doses.
Baiwei San (Cynanchum Powder) for Treating Wind-Heat Binding:
This formula treats Qi pain caused by the binding of Wind and Heat, where pain wanders left and right in the body, possibly accompanied by aversion to wind and rashes. After prolonged administration of decoctions, if residual heat remains unbalanced, this Baiwei San is suitable to dissipate the residual heat.
Baiwei (Cynanchum Root, 6 Fen) Weirui (Polygonatum Odoratum Rhizome, 4 Fen) Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root, 4 Fen) Mahuang (Ephedra Herb, 3 Fen) Qinjiao (Gentiana Macrophylla Root, 5 Fen) Tianmendong (Asparagus Fern Tuber, 4 Fen) Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper, 2 Fen) Muganji (Stephania Tetrandra Root, 4 Fen) Chaihu (Bupleurum Root, 3 Fen) Gancao (Licorice Root, 2 Fen) Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens Root, 4 Fen) Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange, 4 Fen) Wutou (Aconite Lateral Root, 2 Fen) Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, 6 Fen) Renshen (Ginseng Root, 4 Fen) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 6 Fen) Shanzhuyu (Cornus Fruit, 4 Fen) Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, 6 Fen) Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root, 3 Fen)
These twenty ingredients are crushed and sifted through silk. Take one Cunbi (approx. 2.7g) administered with vinegar solution, gradually increasing to two Cunbi, three times daily. Younger or weaker individuals should reduce the dose according to their age and strength. For mild toxicity, wine may be used for administration. (The above content is identical to that in the *Jiyan Fang*.)
