The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) states: "Kelì (Polydipsia and Polyuria)" is characterized by drinking and urinating in equal amounts. This occurs because, in early years (or sometimes without specifying the time), one took mineral drugs (*Shiyao*). The heat from these minerals became excessive in the body, compounded by excessive sexual activity, leading to the depletion of body fluids; thus, whatever is drunk is immediately excreted as urine.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Prescriptions by Ge Hong) for treating severe Kelì with daily consumption of several hu of water and corresponding polyuria:
Trichosanthes Root (*Gualou*), Coptis Rhizome (*Huanglian*), Stephania Tetrandra (*Fangji*), Lead Tetroxide (*Qiandan*, also known as *Qianhua*).
Grind these ingredients in equal proportions into powder. Mix with one he of vinegar and one he of water to form a paste. Take one fangcunbi (a measure approx. 2-3 cm square) of the powder each time, three times a day.
The *Fan Wang Fang* (Prescriptions by Fan Wang) for treating thirst with daily consumption of one hu of water and corresponding polyuria, Gualou Decoction:
Trichosanthes Root (*Gualou*, 2 liang), Coptis Rhizome (*Huanglian*, 1 sheng), Licorice Root (*Gancao*, 2 liang).
Take these three herbs, add five sheng of water, decoct to obtain two and a half sheng of liquid. Divide into three doses.
The *Jiyan Fang* (Verified Prescriptions) for treating thirst with daily consumption of one hu of water:
Dig up the white inner bark of mulberry roots (*Sanggeng Baipi*) from three chi underground. Roast until yellowish-black, cut finely, and boil in water just enough to cover the herbs. Boil until the flavor is strong, then drink while hot. Do not add salt.
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: "Neixiao (Internal Consumption)" is characterized by non-thirsty but frequent urination. This results from taking the Five Minerals Powder (*Wushi San*) in early years, where the heat of the minerals becomes bound within the kidneys.
The *Duanju Fang* (Short Drama Prescriptions) states: "Neixiao" is caused by heat pathogens. Urine output exceeds fluid intake, causing extreme debility and shortness of breath. In Neixiao, food is digested and converted directly into urine and expelled without thirst. Treat with Gouqi Decoction:
Gouqi Branches and Leaves (*Gouqizhiye*, 1 jin), Dongkui Root (*Donggen*, 3 liang), Trichosanthes Root (*Gualougen*, 3 liang), Gypsum (*Shigao*, also known as Xishi, 3 liang; omitted in some versions), Coptis Rhizome (*Huanglian*, dosage missing in source text).
Cut these five herbs, add one dou of water, decoct to obtain three sheng. Take five he per dose, three times a day.
It also states: A prescription for frequent urination, occurring dozens of times day and night:
Fresh Soybean Leaves (*Xiaodou Shenghuo*, one bundle).
Take this single herb, crush and squeeze to extract juice. Drink three sheng frequently until cured. This also treats pediatric diarrhea.
The *Ling Li Fang* (Prescriptions by Ling Li) for treating clear and frequent urination, Qinjiao Powder:
Qinjiao (*Qinjiao*, one fen), Aged Mustard Seed (*Chen Jiezi*, two fen).
Grind these two herbs and sieve. Take one fangcunbi with wine, three times a day.
