The *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: On the sides of the neck, the chest, and the axillae, natural patches of peeling skin appear; spots are connected to one another, slightly white in color and round; there may also be black ones. There is no pain or itching sensation.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Prescriptions by Ge Hong) states: White mottled patches suddenly appear on the face and neck, resembling tinea corporis, which is commonly known as Li Yang (Leprosy-like ulcer/skin disease).
Formula: Rub the affected area with a new cloth until it turns red, then rub Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus, 巴豆) ground in vinegar onto it. Do not apply over a wide area.
Another formula: Collect the juice from holes in living trees and wipe it on the affected area. Mix Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 桂枝) powder with saliva and apply as a poultice, two to three times daily.
The *Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) for treating Li Yang:
Grind Liu Huang (Realgar, 留黄/雄黄) with vinegar and apply; this is the most effective method.
Another formula: Grind Hai Piao Xiao (Sepiae Endoconcha, 乌贼骨) with three-year-old vinegar, rub it on the skin until red, then apply.
Another formula: Take dung beetles that have died naturally on the road, crush them thoroughly, and apply. The affected area should be rubbed until warm and covered/sealed; it will heal overnight.
The *Ru Yi Fang* (Prescription Meeting One's Desires) for treating Li Yang:
Wash with "half-sky water" (rainwater collected before it touches the ground).
Another formula: Wash with dew collected on lotus leaves.
The *Ji Yao Fang* (Extremely Important Prescriptions) for treating white mottled patches on the face, named Li Yang Feng (Leprosy Wind):
Xiong Huang (Realgar, 雄黄), Liu Huang (Sulfur, 硫黄), Fan Shi (Alumen, 矾石). Grind the above ingredients in equal parts into powder, mix with Zhu Gao (Pig Fat, 猪膏), and apply.
Another formula: Take shed snake skin, grind it repeatedly until it becomes hot, then discard it in the grass. Do not look back.
The *Seng Shen Fang* (Monk Shen's Prescriptions) for treating Li Yang:
Liu Huang (Sulfur, 1 fen), Fan Shi (Alumen, 1 fen), Shui Yin (Mercurius, 1 fen), Zao Hei (Furnace Black/Carbonized Soil, 1 fen).
Grind these four substances into powder, mix and grind with Cong Ti (Scallion Juice, 葱涕), and apply before going to bed.
Another formula: Rub animal fat (Mi Zhi, 糜脂) on the affected area several times.
It also says: For treating body skin prone to mottling and peeling:
Nü Wei (Caulis Aristolochiae Manshuriensis, 女萎), Fu Zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, 1 piece, processed), Ji She Xiang (Styrax/Caryophylli Flos variant, 2 fen), Qing Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 2 fen), She Xiang (Moschus, 2 fen), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 1 fen).
Boil the five herbs (excluding musk) in seven he of pig fat collected in the twelfth lunar month until slightly boiling. Quickly remove the dregs, add She Xiang (Moschus, 2 fen), mix well, and boil again through three cycles of heating and cooling (San Shang San Xia) until the ointment is formed.
Abrade the skin slightly to cause minor injury, then apply the ointment.
Another formula: Use lye juice from plant ash, applying it repeatedly. After washing and drying, grind Mu Fang Ji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix, 木防己) with vinegar and apply; it will cure immediately.
Another formula: Take two handfuls of Yin Chen Hao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, 茵陈蒿). Boil in ten dou of water until seven sheng remain. First wash the affected area with Soap Pod Decoction (Zao Jia Tang, 皂荚汤) until the epidermis is abraded, then wash with the prepared decoction.
The *Guang Ji Fang* (Broadly Beneficial Prescriptions) for treating Li Yang Feng:
Xiong Huang (Realgar, 1 liang), Nuo Sha (Sal Ammoniac/Nansha variant, 2 liang), Fu Zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis, 3 liang, raw).
Grind into powder, mix with Ku Jiu (Vinegar, 苦酒) to form a paste, and apply.
The *Jing Xin Fang* (Prescriptions Touching the Heart) for treating Li Yang:
Collect the moss/fungus growing on roof tiles, first rub the affected area until red, then apply.
The *Long Men Fang* (Dragon Gate Prescriptions) for treating Li Yi Feng (Li Yang Wind):
Take half a sheng of Zao Jia Zi (Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina, 皂荚子), grind finely, and mix with raw Sesame Oil (Sheng Ma You, 生麻油). First rub the affected area with raw cloth, then apply. This is excellent.
