*The Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: When Qi and Blood are abundant, they nourish the eyebrows, making them thick; when Qi and Blood are deficient, the eyebrows become withered and sparse. If additionally injured by Wind pathogenic factors, leading to eyebrow loss, all these conditions are due to damage and deficiency of Qi and Blood.
The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) provides a prescription for eyebrow growth:
Take "Lu Shang Qing Yi" (soot collected from the top of a stove, specifically the blue-black soot) and Tie Jing (iron rust powder), in equal proportions. Mix with water and apply externally.
Another prescription:
Use black sesame flowers harvested in the seventh lunar month, dried in the shade. Mix with fresh black sesame oil and apply once every three days to promote the growth of eyebrows and hair.
The *Ruyi Fang* (Prescription Satisfying One's Desires) provides a prescription for eyebrows failing to grow:
Use a needle to prick the skin causing slight injury, then apply honey. Hair will regenerate.
The *Xin Lu Dan Fang* (Newly Recorded Single-Ingredient Prescriptions) provides a prescription for eyebrow growth:
Grind iron rust powder with oil until uniform, and apply to the eyebrows.
Another prescription:
Apply high-quality honey every evening; hair will also grow within seven days.
Yet another prescription:
Wash the area multiple times with iron rust water.
*The Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* states: If Wind pathogenic factors invade the meridians and collaterals, altering the flow of Qi and Blood, abnormal and coarse hairs may sprout randomly. In such cases, medicinal pastes should be applied to inhibit their growth.
The *Xin Lu Fang* (Newly Recorded Prescriptions): Pluck out the unwanted hairs, mix clam shell ash with turtle fat, and apply. The hairs will never grow again. (This is consistent with the *Qianjin Fang*.)
Another prescription:
Remove the hairs, then apply dog or pig bile. The hairs will never grow again. (This is consistent with the *Qianjin Fang*.)
Yet another prescription:
Pluck out the hairs, then apply bat blood (*Fuyi Xue*). The hairs will not grow.
The *Qianjin Fang*: On specific auspicious days ("Chu Ri"), pluck out the hairs and apply turtle fat.
Another prescription:
Apply dog milk.
Yet another prescription:
Burn the roots of jujube trees that grow towards the east into ash, mix with water, and apply.
*The Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* states: Internal heat combined with external deficiency allows Wind-Dampness to invade. When Damp-Heat clashes and combines, sores and ulcers will erupt on the head, face, and body.
The *Ruyi Fang* provides a prescription for treating malignant sores on the face:
Hu Fen (Lead Carbonate, 5 liang, calcined), Huang Bo (Phellodendron Bark, 5 liang), Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome, 5 liang).
Crush these three herbs and sieve them. Dust the powder onto the facial sores three times daily. (This is consistent with the *Duan Ju Fang*.)
The *Ji Yao Fang* (Extremely Important Prescriptions) provides a prescription for treating facial sores that are extremely itchy, where scratching leads to the discharge of yellow pus and formation of crusts, known as "Fei Chuang" (Greasy Sores/Impetigo Herpetiformis):
Boil Shen Ku Can (Sophora Root) juice, wash the crusts off, then soak old ragged cloth in the liquid for wet compresses. Subsequently, apply white honey. This will naturally exude a glue-like fluid. Then, apply powder of Xiong Huang (Realgar). Within one or two applications, healing will occur.
It is also stated: A Hu Fen Paste for treating malignant sores on the head and face:
Hu Fen (Lead Carbonate, 3 liang), Song Zhi (Pine Rosin, 2 liang), Shui Yin (Mercury, 3 liang), Zhu Zhi (Pig Fat, 6 he).
Combine the first four ingredients. First, melt the Pine Rosin and Pig Fat together, filter out the dregs. Then add the Mercury and Lead Carbonate, stirring until thoroughly mixed. Apply to the sores three times daily.
The *Gao Yao Fang* (Plaster Prescriptions) provides a Huang Lian Paste for treating itchy sores on the head and face:
Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome, 4 liang), Bai Lian (Ampelopsis Radix, 2 liang), Da Huang (Rhubarb Root, 3 liang), Huang Bo (Phellodendron Bark, 2 liang), Hu Fen (Lead Carbonate, 2 liang).
Sieve the five herbs. Mix with pig grease (lard) and apply. Wash the area occasionally with salt water decoction. (Note: Li Lu Paste can also be applied. See Volume 25, Pediatrics...)
