According to the *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases): Roundworms (*Hui Chong*) are one of the nine types of intestinal parasites. They are one chi long, or sometimes five to six cun long. They may become active due to weakness of the fu and zang organs, leading to abnormal secretion of saliva/phlegm.
The *Xinlu Fang* (Newly Recorded Formulas) provides a prescription for treating heart pain caused by roundworms accompanied by vomiting clear fluid:
Take the root of the Chinaberry tree (*Melia azedarach*), specifically from the southeast lower part that has not been exposed to the air, chop it to measure one sheng. Boil in two sheng of water until reduced to one sheng. Strain the dregs and administer seven ge. If a long time has passed, warm the remaining portion and administer again.
The *Guangji Fang* (Broad Aid Formulas) states a prescription for treating roundworms and tapeworms (*Cunbai*):
Take the root of the sour pomegranate (*Punica granatum*), chop it to measure two sheng. Add ten betel nuts (*Arecae Semen*), sourced from the east and buried seven cun deep into the soil, crush and chop them. Boil in seven sheng of water until reduced to two sheng and six ge. Squeeze out the juice and discard the residue.
The *Luyuan Fang* (Recorded Verified Formulas) provides the Coix Decoction for treating roundworms:
Use two jin of Coix root (*Coicis Radix*), wash it, and cut it finely. Boil in seven sheng of water until three sheng remain. Drink it all before meals. For those who are weak or elderly, divide it into two doses. After one night, all roundworms will be expelled.
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Pinworms (*Nao Chong*) are also one of the nine types of intestinal parasites. Their shape is very small, resembling modern-day snails. They arise due to weakness of the fu and zang organs, causing symptoms which invariably...
The *Jiyao Fang* (Essential Formulas) states a prescription for treating long worms, red worms, and tapeworms:
Use Coix root (*Coicis Radix*), add seven sheng of water, boil until two sheng remain, and divide into two doses. (Note: The *Xinlu Fang* records using two jin of Coix root.)
The *Fan Wang Fang* provides a prescription for treating pinworms:
Chinaberry fruit (*Meliae Fructus*), soak in pure vinegar for two nights. Wrap in cotton cloth, insert into the anus to a depth of two cun, and change daily.
The *Luyuan Fang* provides a prescription for treating pinworms causing itching or pain in the anus:
Aconite Root (*Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata*), Dried Ginger (*Zingiberis Rhizoma*), Rubia Root (*Rubiae Radix*), Sichuan Pepper (*Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*) (each two liang).
Crush and sieve, wrap in cotton cloth, insert into the anus. No more than two applications are needed; this is effective.
The *Xinlu Fang* provides a prescription for pathological roundworms attacking the heart with stabbing pain and vomiting clear fluid:
Mash fresh Mugwort leaves (*Artemisiae Argyi Folium*), squeeze out the juice. Do not eat the previous night. In the early morning, drink one sheng. This should expel the roundworms.
Another formula: Take Chinaberry root (*Meliae Radix*), chop it finely, and boil in water until thick and dark red-black. Mix the juice with rice and cook into a thick porridge. Do not eat the previous night. Eat it in the early morning.
Another formula: Use two jin of Coix root (*Coicis Radix*), chop finely, add seven sheng of water, and boil until three sheng remain. Divide into two doses. It can also be cooked as porridge.
