Su Tang's discussion states: Engaging in sexual activity after getting drunk, standing for a long time in cold and damp places, being exposed to water vapor while traveling by boat, feeling the dampness and heat vapor in summer houses, excessive labor, as well as crying, sorrow, and mental agitation are all pathogenic factors.
It is also stated: One should not ride a horse when suffering from this condition; if one can walk and engage in moderate physical labor, the Hongxiangjiao (a disease characterized by swelling and pain in the feet) will naturally improve gradually.
It is also stated: Do not lie in bed too much during the day; one must exert effort to get up and move around to soothe the emotions and temperament, and do not indulge in sleep.
The *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states: For anyone suffering from Hongxiangjiao, it is extremely necessary to restrain sexual activity and to avoid great anger.
The *Jiyao Fang* (Essential Prescriptions) states: For anyone suffering from Hongxiangjiao, it is particularly unsuitable to sleep; one should frequently perform "Xingsan" (a therapy involving movement to disperse pathogens) to eliminate edema and qi stagnation, should not take tonifying medicines, and it is best to undergo purgative therapies monthly.

Su Tang's discussion further states: It is inadvisable to consume wheat flour products, mutton, radish, okra, turnip greens, and Chinese chives.

It is also stated: One must not consume various raw fruits or sour/vinegar-based foods; those who violate these prohibitions will find it difficult to recover.

Su Tang says: It is advisable to regularly consume veal, calf hooves, carp, snakehead fish, pork, rabbit meat, green onion, mustard greens, wild leek, and Chinese chives. Also pig liver and pig lungs. The method of consumption is to first boil these ingredients in soup until just cooked, then cut them into pieces, mix with soy sauce and water, and add half a scoop of green onion, ginger, and Sichuan pepper, boiling until very tender. The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) states: Edema refers to the condition where swelling extends straight from below the knees to the ankles and toes. This is caused by deficiency of blood and Qi, allowing pathogenic factors to injure the body, resulting in blockage and stagnation of the meridians. It is also said that people in the counties and mountains of Jiangdong often suffer from edema, claiming that there is a grass in their land called "Edema Grass"; if people accidentally step on and touch it while walking, it causes edema.
The *Luyan Fang* (Verified Prescriptions) treatment for foot edema:
Dig a pit in firm ground, deep enough to accommodate the foot. Heat the pit until red by burning, pour urine into the pit, tie a rope below the knee, and still use a Gan Dao (a specific tool) to scrape over the swollen area... (text missing here)
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Fang Ge's Prescriptions) treatment for sudden onset of Bi syndrome in the feet, where the calf swells suddenly like an inflated balloon, accompanied by headache, aversion to cold and fever, and tendon stiffness. If not treated immediately, it will not heal even in old age:
According to the location of the pain on either foot, moxa is applied three cones at the white flesh margin directly below the medial malleolus, which leads to recovery. If it recurs later, moxa is applied to the original site again.
Furthermore, according to Master Tao: At the initial stage of this disease, there is slight swelling between the inner thighs; or the major vessels swell; or there is stiffness in the calves. If decoction has not resolved the issue, one should examine and press... (text missing here)
