This formula is indicated for vomiting and inability to eat during pregnancy.
"En Zu" (morning sickness characterized by aversion to food odor) is attributed to Spleen deficiency. Vomiting, where food is regurgitated after ingestion, is attributed to Fire pathogen, as stated in the principle that "all upward rushing and counterflow symptoms belong to Fire."
In this case, Jueyin Liver blood nourishes the fetus, while Shaoyang Ministerial Fire rebels upward due to deficiency. Zhuru can calm the Shaoyang Fire, N Houpo can direct rebellious Qi downward, Chenpi and Shengjiang open the stomach, while Renshen and Baizhu tonify the Spleen. By opening the stomach and tonifying the Spleen, the aim is to enable the patient to safely consume grain foods.
Ancient physicians stated: Baizhu and Huang Qin are the sacred medicines for calming the fetus. Why is this so? Because Baizhu tonifies the Spleen, thereby nurturing the mother of all things (the Spleen as the root of postnatal existence); Huang Qin clears Fire, thereby nourishing the Yin of the uterus. It promotes benefits and eliminates harm, hence it is called the sacred medicine for calming the fetus.

This formula is indicated for threatened miscarriage with spotting and fetal instability during pregnancy.
"Tai Lou" refers to scanty vaginal bleeding during pregnancy. This condition arises because Yin deficiency fails to control Fire, and Qi deficiency fails to secure Blood. In this formula, Ejiao, Shu Dihuang, Danggui, and Chuanxiong are blood-nourishing herbs; Huangqi, Gancao, and Ai Ye are Qi-securing herbs. Blood is used to nourish, and Qi is used to secure, completing the method for stopping leakage and calming the fetus.
Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Sharen) (1 qian, crushed), Allii Fistulosi Bulbus (Congbai) (10 stalks, decocted in water for oral administration).
This formula is indicated for abdominal pain during pregnancy.
Pain results from the stagnation and obstruction of Qi and Blood. Therefore, Sharen is used to regulate Qi in the lower jiao, and Congbai to regulate Qi in the middle jiao. When Qi moves, Blood flows freely, and pain ceases naturally. If pain is caused by specific pathogens, treatment should be tailored to the respective syndrome.
