Ren Shen (2 liang, remove the rhizome node and decoct)
When suddenly experiencing vertigo, falling unconscious while walking or standing, with no phlegm sound in the throat and no pathogenic heat in the body, this is a syndrome of Yin deficiency leading to sudden collapse of Yang. This formula is indicated for such cases.
Yin and Yang in the human body are mutually rooted and inseparable. If Yin is deficient and depleted, solitary Yang loses its foundation and attachment, causing it to fly away and scatter spontaneously, thus leading to sudden vertigo, falling, and unconsciousness. The fault lies not in Phlegm, hence there is no phlegm sound. The disease is not caused by external contraction, hence there is no body heat. At this moment, tangible Yin Blood cannot be generated quickly, whereas intangible Respiration Qi needs urgent consolidation. Moreover, since Yin is born from Yang, this embodies the profound mystery of Taiji! Therefore, Du Shen Tang (Single Ginseng Decoction) is used as the primary treatment, taking advantage of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) as a supreme product for consolidating Yuan Qi (Original Qi) and benefiting Zheng Qi (Upright Qi).
Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Chen Xiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), Bing Lang (Arecae Semen), Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Tai Wu Yao (Linderae Radix)
These five ingredients are taken in equal parts, ground with Bai Jiu (White Wine), and administered orally.
Sudden death due to violent anger is named Qi Jue (Qi Syncope). This formula is indicated for such cases.
Anger causes Qi to ascend. When Qi ascends, Qi becomes excessive and stagnant in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner) and fails to circulate, while Qi rebels and fails to descend in the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner), thus causing sudden death. Since Qi ascending should be directed downward, Chen Xiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) and Bing Lang (Arecae Semen) are used. Since rebellious Qi should be guided smoothly, Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) and Wu Yao (Linderae Radix) are used. Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) is added as an assistant to break stagnation. Grinding with Bai Jiu (White Wine) serves to harmonize Yin.
Those who suddenly faint due to exposure to foul odors and miasmic toxins are named Zhong E (Stroke of Evil). If untreated, death will ensue. It is appropriate to burn a scoop of charcoal, pour vinegar onto it, and let the patient inhale the vinegar vapor, then...
Whenever one encounters corpses or funerals, visits ancient temples, enters uninhabited rooms, or attends altars for Heaven, Earth, and spirits, and subsequently suffers sudden collapse with a red face and inability to speak, this is named Shi Zhu (Corpse Transmission) or Gui Zhu (Ghost Transmission), which refers to being afflicted by evil influences. Administering medicine at this stage leads to death. It is appropriate to move the patient so that their head faces East, have the host burn incense and bow facing North to pray, and further apply the method of heating vinegar to fumigate the nose. Then recovery may occur; otherwise, bleeding from the seven orifices will lead to death.
Death occurring during sexual intercourse between men and women is called Tuo Yang (Yang Collapse) in men and Tuo Yin (Yin Collapse) in women. Although the man is dead, his genitalia remain erect and do not flaccid; although the woman is dead, her vulva remains closed and does not open. There are also cases of death due to essence leakage during dreams, where the penis must be erect and essence must be ejaculated, and the corpse's facial expression shows signs of pleasure, which serves as a distinguishing feature. All these conditions are considered incurable.
