于患人手大指外边指甲后一韭叶许,针之出血,男左女右取之,血出即效。如大段危急,
两手大指俱针之,其效甚捷。盖喉咙者肺之系,所针之处,乃少商也,为肺之井穴,故出血
而愈。
Realgar (Liang Huang, 1 liang) Turmeric Tuber (Yujin, 1 qian) Croton Seed (Badou, 14 grains, oil and skin removed)
Grind into fine powder and make into pills. Take 0.5 fen per dose, swallowed with saliva.
This formula is indicated for *Chantou Feng* (Entangling Throat Wind), characterized by acute throat closure.
*Chantou Feng* with acute throat closure is a matter of life and death; urgent treatment leads to survival, while delayed treatment leads to death. In this formula, Realgar breaks up stagnant Qi, Croton Seed expels thick phlegm-saliva, and Turmeric Tuber dissipates malignant blood. By combining these three actions, the obstruction is cleared. Master Danxi generally did not use harsh or toxic medicines in his lifetime; perhaps this formula was used only out of necessity!
Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit (Lieya Zaojiao, 4 strips, black skin removed) Alum (Baifan, 1 liang)
Grind into fine powder. Take 3 zhi per dose.
For patients with *Houbi* (Throat Closure) who have been unable to eat for several days, induce vomiting with this formula. When the phlegm-saliva is completely expelled, the disease resolves.
The pungent and penetrating nature of Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit breaks up stagnant Qi. The salty and bitter nature of Alum induces vomiting of thick phlegm-saliva. Repeated induction of vomiting removes the phlegm-saliva, and the disease is eliminated.
Licorice Root (Gancao, 5 qian) Platycodon Root (Jiegeng) Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng) (each 3 qian)
This formula is indicated for sore throat (*Yantong*).
The sweet nature of Licorice Root relieves urgency in the throat. The bitter nature of Platycodon Root directs Qi downward from the throat. The pungent nature of Saposhnikovia Root disperses stagnation in the throat.
Apply Croton Seed oil onto paper, roll it into a strip, ignite it, and extinguish it as soon as smoke appears. Ask the patient to open their mouth, and insert the smoldering strip into the throat.
After a short while, half he of purple-black blood will be expectorated. Immediately, the breath becomes unobstructed, speech resumes, and the patient can consume porridge and drinks. Since the fire reaches the affected area, the Croton Seed oil acts to purge, and the smoke serves to guide; this is a method that achieves three benefits at once.
Prick the point on the outer side of the thumb nail bed, approximately one leek-leaf width behind the nail, to bleed. For males, select the left hand; for females, the right hand. Efficacy is immediate upon bleeding. If the condition is critically severe, prick both thumbs simultaneously for very rapid results. The throat is the connection of the Lung Meridian; the pricked point is Shaoshang (LU-11), which is the Jing-Well point of the Lung Meridian. Therefore, healing occurs through bloodletting.
For patients with redness and swelling in the throat, it is appropriate to prick from the side to bleed, which leads to recovery. The reason for pricking from the side specifically is to avoid the Yamen (GV-15) acupoint, as injuring it causes loss of voice.
