Wujiapi (Acanthopanacis Cortex), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Fulingpi (Poria Sclerotium with Hostwood), Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium), Shengjiangpi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Cum Scapo).
This formula is established for treating water-dampness pathogenic factors lodging in the skin. Since the pathology is not located in the upper jiao, methods of inducing sweating to expel pathogens and purging water are not employed; instead, only promoting urination is used.
Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) 50 pieces (stir-fried with ginger), Jingmi (Oryza Sativa Semen).
Regarding explanations of Maimendong Tang (Ophiopogon Decoction), many discuss abstract principles. I believe that if panting and fullness appear at the onset, it clearly indicates that the descending function of Lung's clear and pure qi fails, causing water overflow in the high position (the lungs). It would be acceptable to substitute with Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Gualoupi (Trichosanthis Pericarpium), and Yiyiren (Coicis Semen).
Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) 1 qian, Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Bencao (Ligustici Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) 5 fen, Manjingzi (Vitalbae Fructus) 3 fen.
This treats dampness located in the exterior, hence wind-dispelling herbs are used exclusively. Once the joints are unobstructed, dampness is eliminated. Moreover, this belongs to a superficial ailment caused by external pathogens, which originally does not fall under the category of strengthening the spleen and transporting/diffusing dampness.
Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, stir-fried) 1 liang, Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, stir-fried), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, stir-fried), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, stir-fried), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, processed with ginger) 5 qian, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, stir-fried) 4 qian, Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) 3 qian, Fuling (Poria), Sharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) 2 qian, Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 2 qian, Jianghuang (Curcumae Longae Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Zhuling (Polyporus) 1 qian.
Made into pills using steamed wheat cake, taken warm after roasting.
Zhongman Fenxiao Wan (Middle Fullness Dispersing Pill): Explainers state it treats heat distension. This is merely heat generated from accumulated dampness due to spleen-stomach dysfunction, not excess fire. If there were excess fire, how could water qi run rampant, and how could turbid yin flourish? Precisely because this formula incorporates methods of tonifying the spleen and stomach within dispersing and resolving actions, without damaging primordial qi, it is an extremely correct method.
Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Bichengqa (Schizonepetae Fructus), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 2 qian, Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Caokouren (Amomi Fructus), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) 5 fen, Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) 3 fen.
Take warm.
In this formula, amidst a large group of warming and tonifying herbs, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) are used. This is what is meant as a provisional measure, administering cold and hot herbs together. Within this, there is both ascending and dispersing action, as well as separating and draining action. Although it belongs to the methods of "opening the ghost gate" (inducing sweating) and "cleaning the residence" (promoting urination), ultimately, the therapeutic pathways are too numerous and scattered.
