Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Perilla Leaf (Zisu), Pueraria Root (Gegen), Peucedani Radix (Qianhu), Pinellia Rhizome (Banxia) stir-fried with ginger juice, Poria (Fuling) 7.5 qian, Tangerine Peel (Chenpi) with the white pith removed, Licorice Root (Gancao), Aurantium Fructus Immaturus (Zhike) stir-fried with bran, Platycodon Root (Jiegeng), and Costus Root (Muxiang) 2 qian.
For every 5 qian of the mixture, decoct with fresh ginger and jujube.
This formula combines tonification and dispersion, resolving both wind and phlegm simultaneously. It should be discontinued once the illness subsides to avoid overdose; its formulation is excellent.

Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu) stir-fried, 2 qian; Perilla Leaf (Zisu), 2 qian; Tangerine Peel (Chenpi) with the white pith removed, 1 qian; Licorice Root (Gancao), 7 fen.
Decoct with fresh ginger and scallion white.
Externally it disperses wind, internally it promotes qi movement. The key lies in being light and smooth; there is no need to resort to harsh remedies frequently.

Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (Yinchen), Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi), Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum (Biejia), Natrii Sulfas (Mangxiao) 2 liang, Rheomi Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang) 5 liang, Dichroae Radix (Changshan), Prunus Armeniaca Seed (Xingren) stir-fried, 3 liang, Crotonis Semen (Badou) 1 liang (heart and skin removed, stir-fried), Fermented Soybean (Douchi) 5 he.
Made into honey pills.
Regarding epidemic pestilence (Tianxing Liqi), therapeutic effects often defy conventional theoretical explanation. As for malaria and dysentery (red and white), there are orthodox treatments available; why take risks hoping for luck? Wang An considered this an excellent prescription, which I do not understand.

Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu) 8 liang, Pinellia Rhizome (Banxia) half sheng, Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Licorice Root (Gancao), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) 3 liang, Jujube (Dazao) 12 pieces.
Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) is the meridian located between the exterior and interior. When pathogenic factors are in the exterior, sweating may be used; when they are in the interior, sweating must not be used. When pathogenic factors are in the exterior, emesis may be used; when they are in the interior, emesis must not be used. When pathogenic factors are in the interior, purgation may be used; when they are in the exterior, purgation must not be used. One must understand that what is referred to here as "half-exterior half-interior" denotes the junction of yin and yang, where the yang meridian energy is nearing its end and seems about to enter Taiyin, leading to disharmony of Ying and Wei (nutritive and defensive qi) and conflict between yin and yang. This is not equivalent to simultaneous exterior and interior involvement, such as in the case of Da Chai Hu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction), which can both release the exterior and purge the interior. Zhang Zhongjing benefited future generations by uniquely opening the category of Harmonization, providing successors with guidelines to avoid taboos. "Harmonizing" refers to harmonizing the interior; "Resolving" refers to releasing the exterior. Harmonizing the interior prevents pathogens from invading the yin meridians internally; releasing the exterior ensures pathogens exit via the yang meridians. Thus, there is no need to employ sweating, emesis, or purgation methods, yet yin and yang cease their contention, and both exterior and interior are resolved. Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) modifies the method of Da Chai Hu Tang but adopts a novel approach: it uses Ginseng Radix to consolidate the root, Licorice Root, ginger, and jujube to assist the spleen and stomach, and Scutellariae Radix to clear internal heat, thereby stabilizing the interior and eliminating concerns of relapse. With deep moats and high ramparts established, possessing the momentum to subdue the enemy without battle, it further employs Bupleuri Radix to specifically scatter Shaoyang pathogens, and Pinellia Rhizome to eliminate phlegm and move qi to transform rebellion. This is akin to having solid defenses while dispatching cavalry raids to trample the enemy, leaving them with no gains from advancing and no footing from retreating; how could they not disintegrate like ice and collapse like broken pottery? This is the subtle intent behind Zhang Zhongjing's formula creation, which only those enlightened by divine wisdom can comprehend. All formulas modified by Zhang Zhongjing noted in commentaries are precise and unalterable, offering specific treatments rather than general ones; this is why they are precious. Learners must study them carefully, and upon doing so, they will have grasped more than half of the principles of Harmonization.
