Duhuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis), Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Xixin (Radix et Rhizoma Asari), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi), Baiwei (Radix Cynanchi Atrati), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Xiong (Radix Chuanxiong), Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Fushen (Poria cum Radix Pini), Yuanzhi Rou (Caulis Polygalae Seedless), Changpu (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii) each 5 qian, Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 2.5 qian.
Take 1 liang per dose, decoct with fresh ginger and jujube.
This prescription prioritizes extinguishing liver wind as the primary principle, nourishing heart spirit as secondary, and resolving phlegm and clearing heat as tertiary. The method is highly systematic.
Chuanwu (Processed, umbilicus and skin removed), Caowu (Processed, skin removed), Danxing (Arisaema Cum Bile) 6 liang, Dilong (Earthworm, washed and dried), Ruxiang (Frankincense, oil removed), Moyao (Myrrh, separately ground) 3 liang 3 qian.
Form into pills with wine.
The medicinal potency is quite harsh; it can be used only when there is indeed stubborn phlegm or dead blood (stasis). If it is cold-dampness flowing into the sinews or blood failing to nourish the sinews, it must not be mistakenly administered.
Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel, white pith removed), Houpo (Magnolia Bark, stir-fried with ginger juice), Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 5 qian, Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii), Huoxiang (Patchouli Herb), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, washed and stir-fried), Chantui (Cicada Slough), Chuanxiong (Radix Chuanxiong), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Fuling (Poria) 2 liang.
Grind into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, swallow with tea water.
When wind-heat attacks upward, treatment should involve clearing and resolving. Overuse of acrid-dispersing herbs exacerbates wind and aids fire, which is certainly not the correct method.
Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, wine-fried), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, wine-fried), Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae) 1 liang, Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 7 qian, Chuanxiong (Radix Chuanxiong) 5 qian, Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 1 liang 5 qian.
Grind into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mix with tea to form a paste-like consistency, and swallow with plain boiled water.
If Shaoyin headache occurs, add Xixin (Radix et Rhizoma Asari); if Taiyin headache occurs with a slow pulse and phlegm, remove Qianghuo, Fangfeng, Chuanxiong, and Gancao, and add Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae);
If migraines occur and do not improve after taking this formula, reduce the dosage of Qianghuo, Fangfeng, and Chuanxiong by half, and double the dosage of Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix); if spontaneous sweating, fever, aversion to heat, and thirst occur, this is Yangming headache; use only Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) with added Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae).
This formula embeds cooling properties within ascending and dispersing actions, representing the major method for treating wind-heat. However, for Yangming headache, Shaoyin jue-ni pain, or blood-deficiency headache, other methods must be employed.
Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, soil-fried), Fuling (Poria), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, wine-fried), Chuanxiong (Radix Chuanxiong), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, stir-fried), Shaoyao (Peony Root, wine-fried).
Equal parts, decoct with over one hundred grains of broomcorn millet.
