To treat cases where a woman inevitably suffers miscarriage at three or four months of pregnancy, experiences recurrent habitual abortion, and cannot retain the fetus. This medicine should be taken in advance after confirming pregnancy.
Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Danggui Radix (Danggui) (each 1 liang), Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) (stir-fried), Amomi Fructus (Sharen) (each 1.5 liang), Poria (Fuling) (1 liang), Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shudihuang) (1.5 liang).
Grind into fine powder, form pills with rice paste, and take with weak vinegar decoction.
This formula is also known as Wuyou San (Sorrowless Powder), used to treat difficult labor, breech presentation, fetal death in utero, and all other critical conditions, ensuring safety without worry.
Danggui Radix (Danggui) (wine-washed, 1.5 qian), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) (1.5 qian), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (N Houpu) (stir-fried with ginger juice), Artemisiae Argyi Folium (Aiye) (each 0.7 qian), Aurantii Fructus (Zhiqiao) (0.6 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (0.5 qian), Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi) (0.8 qian), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo) (0.5 qian), Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus (Beimu) (heart removed, 1 qian), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie Sui) (0.8 qian), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao) (roasted over fire, 1.2 qian).
Decoct in water, take three doses at the time of delivery for excellent results.
To treat pregnant women whose fetus is disturbed by physical strain. If no damage occurs, pain may radiate upwards; if damage has occurred, it can immediately induce expulsion. If several months pass without knowing it is fetal movement, suspecting another disease, take one dose: if the fetus moves, it will be expelled; if there is no pain, it will not move nor harm the fetus.
Danggui Radix (Danggui) (5 qian), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) (1 liang). Decoct in two zhan of wine until dry, then add two bowls of water, boil three or four times, take warm, divided into one or two doses gradually.
Trichosanthis Fructus (Gualou) (2 liang), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui) (2.5 liang), Epimedii Herba? No, Qu Mai Sui (Epimedii? No, Lychnidis Sieboldianae Herba? Standard is Lychnidis Herba or similar, but text says Qu Mai Sui - likely Lychnidis Herba Stamen/Flower head contextually often just Qu Mai). *Correction*: Qu Mai is Dianthi Herba. So Dianthi Herba (Qu Mai) (2 liang).
Decoct in one sheng of water until cooked, take in divided doses.
The Classics state: Postpartum women must pay great attention to care and management. Upon completion of delivery, regardless of abdominal pain, first take half a cup of medicine mixed with child's urine and wine. Do not lie down immediately; instead, sit quietly with mouth closed for a moment, then be helped to bed to lie supine with knees flexed. Place thick mats at the head of the bed to prevent wind entry. Massage from the epigastrium to the umbilicus with hands to ensure lochia does not stagnate. Do not ask whether the baby is male or female, lest anger arise (if female), causing Qi and Blood to reverse. Quickly burn bricks or charcoal, splash with vinegar so that the vinegar smell is constantly inhaled, or burn dried lacquer smoke to fumigate, preventing blood reversal and blood fainting. Eat small amounts of white porridge, do not eat too full. After seven days like this, small amounts of pure wine may be taken, with a little salt flavor, or well-cooked mutton, or broth from duck/chicken, slightly flavored, or eat pig trotters or kidneys, but not in excess, lest disease stagnation occur. If the month is not yet full, do not speak much, labor, worry, think excessively, force oneself out of bed to walk for long periods, sit for long periods, indulge in cold, raw, sticky, hard, greasy, sweet, fish, meat, etc., and do not avoid wind and cold, undress for bathing. What feels not too damaging at the time becomes "bed sickness" (Ru Lao) after one month, with soreness and pain in hands, feet, waist, and legs, and a chilly sensation in the bone marrow as if cold wind blows; even with good methods, it is difficult to treat. Generally, postpartum women need one hundred days of recuperation to recover. If any taboo is violated, it often leads to body stiffness, opisthotonos (arched back), named "Bed Wind" (Ru Feng), resulting in irrecoverable condition. Do not stay alone at night, as excessive loss of fresh blood causes Heart deficiency and fear of palpitations. Washing dirty clothes should not be done under the sun to avoid evil spirits invading. Washing face should not involve bending head down; scraping tongue and brushing teeth all cause Qi reversal and dizziness. These are the constant precautions for postpartum care. Must ensure Qi and Blood are harmonious, naturally settling. If not following this, residual diseases will arise. It is said that for women, not only childbirth requires concern, but postpartum care is crucial. Violating taboos initially seems slight as an autumn hair, but when illness strikes, it is heavy as a mountain. Those who understand fate should not fail to be cautious.
