(This formula was created by Jie'an to replace Ge Gen Tang.)
It treats concurrent disease of the Taiyang and Yangming channels, with symptoms including pain in the head, eyes, and eye sockets, dryness of the nose, insomnia, aversion to cold, absence of sweating, and a slightly flooding pulse. (Note: The Taiyang channel originates from the inner canthus, ascends to the forehead, and intersects at the vertex; the Yangming channel ascends to the frontal skull and connects with the eyes. When wind-cold pathogenic factors attack upward, it causes headache, eye pain, and orbital pain; aversion to cold and absence of sweating belong to Taiyang characteristics; dryness of the nose and insomnia...)
Ingredients: Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix). Decoct with fresh ginger, jujube, and Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 1 qian).
This is a formula for treating diseases of the Foot-Taiyang and Foot-Yangming channels. When cold pathogens are in the meridians, Qiang Huo disperses the pathogen of the Taiyang channel (used here instead of Ma Huang); Bai Zhi and Ge Gen disperse the pathogen of the Yangming channel; Chai Hu disperses the pathogen of the Shaoyang channel (although the pathogen has not yet entered the Shaoyang channel, Jie'an added it); since cold will transform into heat, Huang Qin, Shi Gao, and Jie Geng are used to clear heat (these three herbs drain heat...).
(From *Ju Fang*)
It treats concurrent disease of the Shaoyang and Yangming channels, manifesting as high fever and aversion to wind after contracting wind, headache and body ache, nasal congestion, dry throat, profuse phlegm and cough, and thick, sticky sputum and nasal discharge; as well as depression of Yang qi...
As for... in...
However, the source of illness varies. If one contracts wind due to exterior deficiency, using only diaphoretic drugs will inevitably lead to excessive sweating and loss of Yang qi. If wind is contracted while internal phlegm-heat exists, both interior and exterior must be treated simultaneously; one cannot focus solely on releasing the exterior. One might ask: Is this "exterior deficiency" the same as that in Taiyang wind-strike? I reply: No. In Taiyang wind-strike, deficiency or excess is distinguished by the presence or absence of sweat; excess adds Ma Huang, deficiency adds Ge Gen, both for releasing the exterior. Here, "exterior deficiency" refers to consolidating the defensive Qi and dispersing wind).
Ingredients: Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 6 qian), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 5 qian), Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex, 4 qian), Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Spica, 7 qian), Chi Shao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Shi...
This is a formula for treating diseases of the Foot-Shaoyang and Foot-Yangming channels. When Yangming disease involves Shaoyang, neither the exterior nor the interior should be purged; only harmonization is suitable (harmonization is appropriate when the pathogen is in the meridians). Chai Hu pacifies the heat of the Shaoyang channel; Sheng Ma and Ge Gen disperse the pathogen of the Yangming channel (all three can raise clear Yang); Qian Hu eliminates phlegm, directs Qi downward, and resolves wind-cold; Sang Bai Pi drains the lungs, promotes diuresis, and stops phlegm cough; Jing Jie dispels wind-heat and clears the head and eyes; Chi Shao regulates Ying blood and disperses Liver pathogenic factors; Huang Qin clears fire in the Upper and Middle Jiao; Shi Gao drains heat from the Lung and Stomach regions (...).
