Treats hemorrhoids and fistulae with pus and blood, dry and hard stools, and unbearable pain. The Hand-Yangming Large Intestine channel belongs to Geng Metal; its nature is clear and dry, governing contraction, and responsible for transporting body fluids to comply with the dampness of the Stomach.
Qinjiao (Gentianae Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Guiwei (Radix Angelicae Sinensis Cauda, washed with wine), Taoren (Semen Persicae, ground. 1 liang), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, stir-fried with bran), Zaojiazi (Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis, burnt to retain character), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma. 5 qian).
These are herbs for the Hand and Foot Yangming channels. Li Dongyuan stated: Qinjiao, Guiwei, and Taoren moisten dryness and harmonize blood (Qinjiao is a moistening agent among wind-dispelling herbs); Zaojia ren removes wind-dryness; Diyu stops bleeding by breaking blood stasis; Zhishi is bitter and cold, tonifying the Kidney and draining excess in the Stomach; Zexie is bland and permeating, directing Qi to the anterior yin, thereby supplementing the part affected by damp-evil due to the clear-dry nature of the Large Intestine (clear-dry refers to the Large Intestine); the bitterness of Baizhu tonifies the insufficiency of dry-Qi, and its sweetness drains fire and benefits primordial Qi, hence it is called "sweet-cold draining fire," which actually borrows the cold nature of Zhishi. For constipation and涩滞 (roughness/stagnation), Dahuang pushes them out; when body fluids are further insufficient, Danggui harmonizes blood, and oily lubricating agents are added.
This formula, excluding Baizhu, Zhishi, and Diyu, plus Cangzhu, Huangbai, Dahuang, Binglang, and Fangfeng, is named Qinjiao Cangzhu Tang: treating the same condition (Li Dongyuan said: if there is combined pathogenic factors, these four should be removed and replaced with Qi-breaking herbs, making the treatment method complete). This formula, excluding Zaojiao, Zhishi, and Diyu, plus Fangfeng, Shengma, Chaihu, Chenpi, Dahuang, Huangbai, Honghua, and Zhigancao, is named Qinjiao Fangfeng Tang: treating hemorrhoidal fistulae with pain during defecation (Dongyuan said: if there is no pain, it is not a hemorrhoidal fistula). Using only Qinjiao from this formula, plus Qianghuo, Fangfeng, Mahuang, Shengma, Chaihu, Gaoben, Xixin, Huangqin, Zhigancao, and Honghua, is named Qinjiao Qianghuo Tang: treating hemorrhoidal fistulae forming masses that prolapse and cause intolerable itching. This formula, excluding Diyu, plus Dahuang and Honghua, is named Qinjiao Dang... (text truncated here)

Treats dysentery with thick and sticky pus and blood, abdominal pain, and tenesmus (dysentery all belongs to damp-heat; red indicates blood injury, white indicates Qi injury; thick and sticky pus and blood indicate both Qi and Blood are injured).
Shaoyao (1 liang), Guiwei, Huangqin, Huanglian (5 qian), Dahuang (3 qian), Muxiang, Binglang, Gancao (stir-fried with honey. 2 qian).
These are herbs for the Foot-Taiyin channel and the Hand and Foot Yangming channels. Shaoyao is sour and cold, draining Liver Fire, astringing Yin Qi, and harmonizing Ying and Wei, thus serving as the Sovereign herb; Dahuang and Guiwei break up accumulations... (text truncated here)
This formula, excluding Guizhi and Gancao, plus Zhike, is named Daozhi Tang (also known as Daoqi Tang): treating the aforementioned symptoms accompanied by thirst; this formula is widely used today. The general principle for treating dysentery is using sweet Shaoyao to harmonize the middle and stop abdominal pain; for heat-pain, add Huangqin and Huanglian; for cold-pain, add Ganjiang and Guizhi; use Muxiang and Binglang to move Qi and relieve tenesmus; for Qi-level involvement, add Zhike and Huashi to widen the intestines; for Blood-level involvement, add Danggui and Taoren to harmonize blood; use Qinjiao and Zaojizi to dispel intestinal wind; Huangqin and Huanglian clear heat-toxins; Baizhu and Chenpi regulate the Stomach; Fuling and Zexie promote dampness drainage; Zhishi and Dahuang break up accumulations; for vomiting, add Shigao and Jiangzhi; for Qi-deficiency, add Huangqi, Renshen, and Baizhu; for Blood-deficiency, add...
