Treats sudden collapse due to wind-stroke (Zhong Feng), with excessive phlegm-saliva, and blocked Qi mechanism. First open the orifices to induce slight vomiting of thin saliva, then administer other medicines (do not induce severe vomiting).
Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus (Zao Jiao) (four stalks, remove skin and strings, roast) and Alum (Bai Fan) (one liang, powdered). Mix with warm water and take 5 fen. Alternatively, add Veratrum Nigrum Rhizoma (Li Lu) (Veratrum can induce vomiting of wind-phlegm). This is a medicine for the Foot-Taiyin Spleen channel and Foot-Jueyin Liver channel. Wu Hegao stated: Clear Yang is above, turbid Yin is below, like a crown on the head and shoes on the feet; there should be no sudden collapse. If turbid pathogenic factors reverse and ascend, Clear Yang loses its position and becomes inverted, causing sudden collapse. Therefore, the obstruction by phlegm-saliva is caused by excess wind and surging Qi. The Classics state: Disease originates from... [text incomplete] ...not draining... Spasm and stiffness, attacking until pathogens are exhausted.
Zhang Hezi added Veratrum Nigrum Rhizoma (Li Lu), Dichroa Root (Chang Shan), and Licorice Root (Gan Cao), naming it Dichora Powder (Chang Shan San): used to induce vomiting of malaria phlegm (Licorice combined with Dichora inevitably causes vomiting). Adding Realgar (Xiong Huang) and Veratrum Nigrum Rhizoma (Li Lu) to this formula... (from *San Yin Fang*)
Treats dry Huoluan (acute gastroenteritis with vomiting and diarrhea), where one wishes to vomit but cannot, wishes to defecate but cannot, accompanied by severe abdominal pain (Huoluan refers to sudden disorder and chaos. External contraction and internal injury cause Yin-Yang separation and struggle between righteous Qi and pathogens, leading to upper vomiting and lower diarrhea, with central cramping pain. Pathogens in the Upper Jiao cause vomiting; in the Lower Jiao, diarrhea; in the Middle Jiao, both occur. This is damp Huoluan, which is mild and easy to treat. If vomiting and defecation are impossible, pathogens cannot exit, obstructing righteous Qi and causing Yin-Yang blockage, leading to rapid death).
Burnt Salt (Shao Yan) and Hot Child's Urine (Tong Bian). Drink three times, inducing vomiting each time.
This is a medicine for the Foot-Taiyin Spleen and Foot-Yangming Stomach channels. When vomiting and defecation are blocked, pathogens knot in the Middle Jiao. Salty flavors can soften hardness, breaking stubborn phlegm and retained food. Roasting makes it bitter, thus enabling emesis. Child's urine is the descending Qi of the human body, guiding fire downward to return to its original path; its salty-cold flavor descends fire very rapidly (this condition arises from extreme stagnation of Spleen Earth unable to vent, causing internal disturbance of fire and failure of Yin-Yang interaction); salt induces vomiting upwards, urine excretes downwards, thus unblocking the center. This formula is extremely simple yet has life-saving power; do not neglect it (*Yi Zong Jin Jian* states: Salt mixed with child's urine is not solely used to descend blocked Yin; since Yin is blocked, blood also fails to circulate, so blood-invigorating medicines should be added).
Using only burnt salt mixed with boiled water and drinking it, then stimulating the throat with fingers to induce vomiting, named the Burnt Salt Throat-Stimulation Method: treats food retention pain radiating to the chest and diaphragm, stuffiness and blockage, cold extremities, and absent radial pulse at the cun position (Food fills the Taiyin, suppressing Liver-Gallbladder Qi, preventing it from ascending. Two excess pathogens contend, causing pain radiating to the chest/diaphragm; Yang Qi cannot diffuse, causing hands... from above... cannot lift... The Classics state: Matters, now...
