Treats menstruation occurring late, with scanty flow and a涩 (obstructed/stagnant) quality, in individuals with a robust physique (In those who are obese with late, scanty, and obstructed menstruation, it is due to Qi deficiency causing phlegm stagnation in the meridians).
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma). Decoct with fresh ginger.
This prescription acts on the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) treats phlegm stagnation; Renshen and Baizhu tonify Qi deficiency (when Qi moves, phlegm moves); Xiong and Danggui invigorate blood and regulate menstruation.
(Zhu Danxi)
Treats delayed menstruation, where the blood is purple-black and forms clots (Purple indicates Blood Heat; Black indicates severe heat; delay with clot formation indicates Qi stagnation, or invasion by Wind-Cold).
Sini San (Four-Ingredient Decoction) (see Blood Disorders section) added with Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma).
This prescription acts on the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian and the Hand/Foot-Jueyin meridians. Sini San nourishes Yin and enriches Blood; Huanglian clears Blood Heat; Xiangfu promotes the movement of stagnant Qi.
Sini San plus Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Baizhu (also known as Wen Liuhe Tang / Warm Six-Harmony Decoction): Treats menorrhagia (Huangqin suppresses Yang Heat; Baizhu tonifies Spleen Qi; the Spleen controls the blood).
Sini San plus Huangqin and Huanglian: Treats menstruation that has just ceased, accompanied by five-palm heat (heat in the palms, soles, and chest), dark-colored menses, or menses resembling bean dregs (resembling bean dregs indicates Heat combined with Dampness. Huangqin and Huanglian are bitter and dry Dampness, while their cold nature overcomes Heat).
Sini San plus Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) and Huanglian is called Re Liuhe Tang (Heat Six-Harmony Decoction); plus Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) is called Han Liuhe Tang (Cold Six-Harmony Decoction); plus Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) is called Qi Liuhe Tang (Qi Six-Harmony Decoction); plus Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) and Qiongji (Libanotidis Rhizoma) is called Feng Liuhe Tang (Wind Six-Harmony Decoction). These are all for women...
(Liang Fang)
Treats prolonged menstrual bleeding, as well as metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, with purple-black clotted blood (Chong Mai and Ren Mai are the seas of the twelve meridians. If undamaged, Yin and Yang are in harmony, and Qi and Blood are regulated. Excessive labor damages the Zang-Fu organs, leading to deficiency of Qi in Chong and Ren, which fails to constrain the menstrual blood, resulting in sudden heavy flow; alternatively, Yin deficiency with Yang hyperactivity allows Heat pathogens to invade, damaging Chong and Ren. When blood is affected by Heat, it flows recklessly. A rapid, fine pulse is favorable; a large pulse is unfavorable. Purple-black clots indicate severe Heat...).
Guiban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum Praeparatum, calcined, 4 liang), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, wine-fried), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, wine-fried, 3 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, stir-baked, 2 liang), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, soaked in child's urine and wine)...
This prescription acts on the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Prolonged heavy menstruation occurs because Yin deficiency fails to control the Fire of the Pericardium, causing it to exceed normal limits; metrorrhagia and metrostaxis... herbs
