Zhang Zhongjing's Banxia Half Decoction (see Section 20)
Zhang Zhongjing's Shengjiang Banxia Tang (Ginger Pinellia Decoction): The *Jingui Yaolue* (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet) states: When a patient feels in the chest as if panting but not actually panting, as if vomiting but not actually vomiting, as if retching but not actually retching, and feels restless and helpless in the chest, Shengjiang Banxia Tang is indicated.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, half sheng) Shengjiang Zhi (Fresh Ginger Juice, one sheng)
Take three sheng of water, decoct Banxia to obtain two sheng of liquid, add Shengjiang Zhi, and decoct again to obtain one and a half sheng of liquid. Allow to cool slightly, divide into four doses. Administer three times during the day and once at night. Discontinue remaining doses when symptoms cease.
Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) (see Section 16)
Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) (see Section 16)
Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) (see Section 16)
Zhang Zhongjing's Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) (see Section 17)
Huoxiang Anwei San (Agastache Stomach-Calming Powder) (see Section 20)
In the syndrome of Huoluan (Cholera-like Disease), do not be alarmed if the pulse shows Dai Mai (Intermittent Pulse). However, Jue Ni (Cold Extremities) with Chi Wei Mai (Slow and Faint Pulse) is truly frightening.
Zhang Zhongjing said: Vomiting accompanied by diarrhea is named Huoluan. (It is appropriate to use Zhang Zhongjing's Tongmai Sini Tang (Decoction for Reviving the Pulse and Restoring Yang), Lizhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill), or Sini Jia Renshen Tang (Sini Decoction with Ginseng), etc.) Huoluan refers to a sudden onset, chaotic and uncontrollable condition, where Yin and Yang are disordered, and Qi is rapidly depleted from above and below. At this time, the pulse may show Dai Mai (Intermittent Pulse); do not be surprised. This is because sudden violent vomiting and explosive diarrhea cause the Gu Shen (Grain Spirit/Spleen-Stomach Qi) to collapse temporarily, unable to connect continuously. If the hands and feet become cold, and the pulse becomes slow and faint, this is greatly frightening. For the hands and feet are the root of all Yang meridians; Slow and Faint pulses belong to Pure Yin. This is a sign of Yang deficiency and Yin excess, indicating that the Zhen Yuan (True Origin/Vital Essence) is gradually perishing. Therefore, those who suffer from sudden Tu Tuo (Violent Collapse) can gradually regain life. But how can those whose essence is gradually perishing suddenly recover? (Sudden collapse is like a storm at noon; after the storm passes, the sun remains bright. Gradual perishing is like the sun setting in the west; once set, the day ends. This is a critical syndrome with nine chances of death. If one wishes to treat it with medicine, non-Tongmai Sini Tang or Sini Jia Renshen Tang will not suffice.)
Zhang Zhongjing's Tongmai Sini Tang (Decoction for Reviving the Pulse and Restoring Yang): The *Shanghan Lun* (Treatise on Cold Damage) states: In Shaoyin Bing (Shaoyin Disease), with diarrhea passing undigested food, interior cold with exterior heat, Jue Ni (Cold Extremities), Mai Wei Yu Jue (Pulse so faint it is about to disappear), the body is actually not aversive to cold, the person has a red complexion, or abdominal pain, or dry heaving, or sore throat, or diarrhea stops but the pulse does not emerge, Tongmai Sini Tang is indicated. It is also suitable for treating Huoluan with vomiting, diarrhea, and absent pulse.
Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root, two liang) Fuzi (One large Aconite Root, raw, skin and umbilicus removed, broken into eight pieces) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, three liang, four liang for strong individuals)
Take three sheng of water, decoct to obtain one and two tenths sheng of liquid, remove dregs, divide into two warm doses. Recovery occurs when the pulse gradually emerges.
Zhang Zhongjing's Lizhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill) (see Section 17)
Zhang Zhongjing's Sini Jia Renshen Tang (Sini Decoction with Ginseng): Treats all syndromes of deficiency-cold, Yang collapse, diarrhea, Jue Ni (Cold Extremities), etc.
Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root, two liang) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, one and a half liang) Renshen (Ginseng Root, one liang) Fuzi (One Aconite Root, raw, skin removed, broken into eight pieces)
Take three sheng of water, decoct to obtain one and two tenths sheng of liquid, remove dregs, divide into two warm doses. Strong individuals may use one large Fuzi and three liang of Ganjiang.
