Swift-flowing and rapid water is best for promoting bowel movements, and for inducing vomiting to reverse turbulent qi (i.e., counterflowing water). Water that has been vigorously boiled with rising steam can induce sweating; its intention is the same as that of Ganlan Shui (Sweet Ripple Water). (Water from a flowing stream stirred ten thousand times with a ladle is called Ganlan Shui, also known as Lao Shui.) Pickled mustard water induces vomiting of phlegm and harmonizes food; Huoluan Yin Yang Shui (Huo Luan Yin-Yang Water) can treat cholera-like disorders. (See Cholera-like Disorders.) Freshly drawn rootless water all comes from wells. (The first drawing at dawn is called Jinghua Shui (Well Flower Water); the first drawing at any time is called Xinji Shui (Freshly Drawn Water); water not yet touching the ground is called Wugen Shui (Rootless Water).) These remove irritability, clear heat, and nourish Yin. Dip soil slurry (Di Jiang) detoxifies and clears summerheat. (Dig yellow earth from the shaded side of a wall, pour water into the pit, stir to obtain the slurry, clarify it, and use it.) Snow from the twelfth lunar month and ice are miraculous in treating epidemics. Furthermore, there is generally Steamed Sweat Water. (Such as steaming water like distilling wine, collecting it with a tube, and using the inverted sweat-like water.) Its miraculous merit has rarely been known throughout history. Its efficacy in inducing sweating and vomiting needs no further explanation; the principle of nourishing Kidney Water and clearing Lung Metal is even more subtle. (When Lung Heat causes Kidney Dryness, clearing Lung Metal allows fluids to descend and moisten; this is Qi transforming into Water, where Heavenly Qi descends as Rain. When Kidney Dryness causes Lung Heat, nourishing Yin allows fluids to ascend; this is Water transforming into Qi, where Earthly Qi ascends as Clouds. Steamed Sweat Water transforms Water into Qi, and Qi back into Water, possessing the wonder of cyclic generation. It is used with utmost precision.)
