Men suffering from labor injury and contracting consumption (Lao Shang / Zhai Ji) gradually become emaciated. Use two cups of urine from an uncircumcised boy (Tongzi Xiaobian) and one cup of wine without ash residue (Wuhui Jiu). Store them in a new porcelain bottle along with a whole pair of pig kidneys (Zhu Yaozi). Seal the bottle tightly with mud. Simmer gently over low fire at night until midnight, then stop heating. In the early hours of Wugeng (around 3-5 AM), warm it again with fire. Open the bottle, drink the wine, and eat the kidneys. For those in critical condition, efficacy is seen within one month; those who are chronically weak and emaciated can also take this medicine. This is because using blood to nourish blood is completely superior to medicines made from minerals, stones, herbs, or plants. (From *Suosui Lu*)
Therefore, Dun Zixian, the District Commissioner, whose illness had already recovered, visited Hua Tuo for pulse diagnosis. Hua Tuo said, "You are still deficient and have not yet recovered. If you do not engage in strenuous labor and abstain from sexual intercourse, otherwise you will die. Upon death, your tongue will protrude several inches." His wife, hearing that he had recovered, traveled a hundred li to visit him. During their stay, they engaged in sexual intercourse. Three days later, the illness recurred exactly as Hua Tuo had predicted. (From *Records of the Three Kingdoms*)
Seventy li south of Shaozhou is a place called Gutian. A wealthy woman surnamed Chen there suffered from a strange disease. Usually, she felt no other discomfort. However, whenever a slight breeze blew, a point of intense itching appeared between her thighs. Scratching did not stop, and soon the entire body felt the same, leading to fainting. After three days of coma, she woke up. When sitting, sounds like coughing emerged. Her body moved forward and backward erratically, swaying unsteadily, occurring hundreds of times. Only after calming down slightly would she, after another day, fall into a deep sleep, unconscious, worsening through the night, preventing her from leaving the house. Ten physicians treated her without success. Physician Liu Dayou examined her and said, "I have identified her syndrome." He first gave her a dose of medicine, then instructed someone to bring a string of prayer beads to the patient's home. Everyone wondered what use they were. While the woman was swaying uncontrollably, note the rhythm and frequency of the beads' movement. The symptoms were observed to decrease slightly. Then he stated, "This is named 'Gui Zhu' (Ghost Transmission/Infection)." It was caused by entering a temple where evil spirits possessed her, causing her spirit and essence to dissipate. The method requires decocting and drinking soup made from a dead person's pillow. After drinking, she experienced severe diarrhea several times, and the chronic ailment vanished instantly. Liu Dayou said, "After using the pillow, it must be returned to its original place. If delayed, it will cause madness." This is merely borrowing its qi/energy. (From *Lei Bian*)
The daughter of Elder Shao from Jinghu in Yuezhou contracted consumption at eighteen years old. For years, she sought treatment through acupuncture and moxibustion without effect, and doctors failed. A fisherman named Zhao Shi boiled eel soup for her to eat. After eating, she felt internal heat, and all her illnesses disappeared. The current medical practice of using Eel Decoction (Man Jian) is based on this principle.
Fei Shi (Flying Corpse): Wanders through the skin and penetrates the zang-fu organs. Each attack causes stabbing pain and changes unpredictably. Dun Shi (Escaping Corpse): Attaches to bones and flesh, attacking blood vessels. Attacks cannot be approached; they occur upon seeing funerals or hearing mourning cries. Feng Shi (Wind Corpse): Invades the four limbs, unaware of the location of pain. Attacks involve drowsiness and are triggered by wind and cold. Chen Shi (Sinking Corpse): Entangles bones and knots in the zang-fu, rushing to the heart and hypochondrium. Attacks involve twisting pain and are triggered by cold. Zhu Shi (Infusing Corpse): Causes heaviness of the whole body and mental confusion, often feeling昏废 (dazed and disabled). Major exacerbations occur when solar terms change and weather shifts. All these conditions are suitable for treatment with Jin Yin Hua Ye (Honeysuckle Leaf), several hu (a unit of volume), boiled to extract a thick juice, concentrated and reduced. Take one pill the size of a chicken egg, three times a day. Taiyi Shenjing Dan (Supreme One Divine Essence Pill) and Suhe Xiang Wan (Styrax Pill) are the premier treatments for this disease.
