A wealthy young man named Tang Jing, aged eighteen or nineteen and unmarried, suddenly developed a sore on the glans penis. Initially, it was only the size of a needle eye. Fearing pain, he dared not wash or scrape it. As time passed, the condition penetrated the skin and flesh, causing rotting of the penis for about one to two cun. Physicians merely applied ointments, which increased the pain, and no one recognized this type of sore. A poor Daoist priest named Zhou Shozhen said, "This is called chancre (Xia Gan Chuang), also known as Jealousy Sperm Sore (Du Jing Chuang). It occurs because young men who are unmarried have abundant essence and frequent erections. When they should release semen, they suppress it; or when they force release, they rupture tender skin. Fearing pain, they fail to clean and scrape the area, allowing pathogens to enter the skin. Over time, it rots and becomes life-threatening." Tang Jing asked the master to treat him. Zhou Shozhen said, "To cure this disease, you must abstain from sexual intercourse for several days. First, decoct Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangpi), Verbena Officinalis Herb (Mabiancao), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) with scallion stems to wash the lesion, removing pus. Then, burn Terminalia Chebula Fruit (Hezi) to ash, mix with Moschus (Shexiang), and apply the dry powder directly to the affected area. Let the patient sleep. Upon waking, drink two or three mouthfuls of cold water to prevent erection, which could rupture the sore and cause hardening of the wound."
For those suffering from sores all over the body that do not respond to hundreds of medicines, take one Areca Seed (Binglang), grind it into fine powder, mix with one qian of native sulfur (Sheng Liuhuang) ground finely, and add one qian of calomel (Nifen). Mix evenly. Each time, take one qian, place it in the palm, mix with oil, and apply to the external genitalia. Do not wash hands afterward; simply wipe them until dry. The sore will heal within one or two days.
There is a type of swollen sore that is red, swollen, and painful. Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) and Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) are cooling herbs. If used for a long time without effect, it indicates the sore has become cold. In such cases, warming herbs such as Cervi Cornu Degradum (Lujiao Hui), Capillarium Carbonisatum (Toufa Hui), and Olibanum (Ruxiang) should be used for treatment, and it should heal. This illustrates the principle of the alternation of yin-yang and cold-heat. (From *Yiyu*)
The qi and blood in the human body circulate throughout the body, passing through countless breath cycles. If blood flow becomes stagnant and obstructed, carbuncles and boils may arise at deficient acupoints; if nodules form, they are called scrofula (Luoli) or phlegm nodules, which refers to the generation of ulcers and sores. When the ulcer heals, the nodules also dissipate. (From Su Dongpo's *Wulei Xianggan Zhi*)
Sun He, ruler of Wu during the Three Kingdoms period, favored Lady Deng. Once, while dancing drunk with a ruyi scepter, he accidentally injured her cheek, causing bleeding and great distress. Sun He ordered the imperial physicians to prepare a medicine, stating that white otter marrow mixed with jade chips and amber powder would eliminate the scar. Sun He purchased a white otter for a hundred gold pieces and prepared the ointment. However, due to excessive amber content, although the wound healed, the scar remained, leaving a red spot like a mole on his left cheek. (From *Youyang Zazu*)
Someone suffered from widespread heat-toxin sores, which were painful but not itchy, especially severe on the hands and feet, but stopping at the neck. The sores adhered to clothing and bedding, preventing sleep day and night due to unbearable pain. A rustic person advised: Use three dou of Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome (Shichangpu), chop it, dry it in the sun, pound it, and sieve it into powder. Spread the powder on a mat and let the patient lie freely upon it, covering them with a quilt. This prevents adhesion to clothing and allows sleep. Within five to seven days, the sores disappear as if by magic. Later, when afflicted again, the same method proved miraculously effective. For medicinal use, Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome (Shichangpu) with dense nodes is preferred.
