The *Bei Suo Meng Yan* records a prescription for treating burns, stating: When Sun Guangxian's servant was making pancakes, a maid holding a child approached the stove and accidentally fell into it. She was hurriedly treated by applying mud mixed with vinegar to the affected area. By dawn, there was no pain, nor any scars. It is indeed true that one cannot hear enough folk sayings (from *Liang Fang*).
Powdered *Eupatorium fortunei* (Liuji Nu) is applied after first sweeping the injured area with rice paste and a chicken feather. The powder is then sprinkled on top; there is no pain and no scars. Generally, when scalded or burned, immediately sprinkle salt powder on the wound to protect the flesh from rotting, and then apply medication. This is extremely effective (from *Benshi Fang*).
For those suffering from scalds or burns, initially do not use cold objects, nor well mud, urine, or honey water to apply or rinse. Because heat encountering cold causes it to retreat deeper, leading to bone corruption and tendon damage. This is why people often experience spasms or contractures after being scalded or burned (from *Chao Shi Bing Yuan*).
Folk shamans are often able to hold mantras while treading on boiling water or fire. Yuan Zhong's younger brother obtained this secret method and cured patients instantly. The mantra goes: "Cloud Dragon Tree King Tathagata grants me practice, Northern Ren-Gui Fire Ban Great Method. Cloud Dragon Tree King Tathagata, I am Northern Ren-Gui Water, collecting and cutting off all fire stars in the world, thousand-mile fire stars must descend, execute swiftly according to law." After chanting, he grasps the Zhenwu seal and blows upon it, then rinses with a little cold water. Even if hands and feet are burned into sores, it can be treated (from *Lei Bian*).
To close golden wounds and stop pain, use only powdered *Eupatorium fortunei* sprinkled into the wound. When Emperor Gaozu of Song (Liu Yu) was humble, he fought against the Di people and saw a large snake several zhang long, which he wounded with an arrow. The next day, the snake returned, and he heard the sound of pounding medicine. He went to investigate and saw several children in green clothes pounding medicine among hazel bushes. Asking their reason, they replied: "Our King was shot by Liu Jinu, and we are mixing medicine to apply." The Emperor said: "Why did my divine spirit not kill them?" They answered: "Jinnu is a future king, his life is not meant to end, he cannot be killed." The Emperor scolded them, and they scattered. The Emperor collected the medicine and returned. Whenever he encountered golden wounds, he applied it, and it proved very effective. Liu Jinu was the childhood name of the Emperor (from *Benshi Fang*).
Zhou Banyuan was cut by a knife held by pirates while suppressing sea bandits. Blood flowed endlessly, clearly showing tendons like severed bones like broken. He used *Huairui Shi San* (Coral Stone Powder) to cover it, but the blood did not stop, and the pain was uncontrolled. A soldier named Li Gao said: "In the army, I was severely wounded and near death. I saw the commander give a packet of medicine named Zijin San (Purple Gold Powder). After covering the wound, the bleeding stopped, and the pain ceased. The next day, the wound became hard as iron, and I recovered without scars." Later, he asked the commander for this prescription. It uses only *Ziteng Xiang* (the best quality of *Daemonorops draco*, also known as Jiaozhen Xiang), scraped from porcelain tiles, ground fine with a stone mill, and applied. It saved thousands of lives (from *Mingyi Lu*; Ziteng Xiang refers to the finest grade of Jiaozhen Xiang).
