Dimness of vision, as well as redness and yellowing of the eyes, are all caused by pathogenic heat entering the interior. Those who can open their eyes and see people have a Yang syndrome (Yang disorder). Those who keep their eyes closed and do not wish to see people have a Yin syndrome (Yin disorder). Horizontal strabismus or oblique gaze indicates death. Staring straight ahead with wide-open eyes indicates death. Sudden loss of vision indicates depletion of Yin or depletion of blood. Greenish hue around the eyes, redness of the eyes, turbidity of the sclera, and blackening of the pupils are all ominous signs. Upward deviation of the eyeballs is called Daiyan (staring upward). Blackening of the eyes with red cheeks indicates phlegm-heat. Yellowing of the eyeballs indicates Jiudan (wine jaundice). Blackening of the eyes accompanied by groaning while walking indicates severe pain in the bone joints. Blackening of the eyes, yellow complexion, flaccidity of limbs, and difficulty in flexion and extension indicate wind-phlegm. Bluish discoloration under the eyes indicates Shaoyin cold complication in Taiyang disease (Shanghan with Yin involvement). Yellowing of the eyes with mental restlessness but a harmonious pulse indicates the disease is about to heal. Yellowing of the eyes with lower abdominal distension and pain, free urination, and black stools indicates accumulation of blood (Xueyu). Yellowing of the eyes with sweating on the head indicates impending jaundice. Bilateral yellowing of the eyes indicates the disease is about to heal. Dim yellow vision indicates damp-heat. Redness of the eyes with cracked lips indicates heat disease. Redness of both eyes indicates impending eruption of sores and rashes. Yellowing of the sclera indicates impending Danre (jaundice-heat). Yellowing of the sclera with a deep and fine pulse indicates a Yin syndrome. Blackening of the eye sockets indicates phlegm. Ashen-black discoloration under the eyes indicates phlegm-fluid retention. Slight fixation of the eyeballs followed by movement indicates phlegm. Dim vision indicates impending epistaxis. Dim vision with dry nose indicates pathogenic heat. Hazy vision indicates pathogenic heat. Disordered gaze indicates phlegm. Non-moving eyeballs with yellow sclera indicate impending epistaxis. Fixed gaze with panting and dysentery indicates death. Black qi appearing at the outer canthus and extending to the Taiyang channel indicates death. Fixed and non-moving eyeballs indicate death. Lack of luster in the eyes and black teeth indicate death. Swollen eyelids indicate water retention. Flickering or uncertain vision indicates death. Sunken eye sockets indicate death. Elevated position of the pupils indicates death. Fixed gaze with drooping shoulders indicates death. Fixed gaze with deafness and stiffness of all joints indicates death. Closing eyes, aversion to people, with a short and choppy pulse indicates death. Dim vision unable to recognize people, upward deviation of the eyes, staring with small pupils, round and fixed eyeballs, and retrocollis all indicate death. Abnormal rotation of the eyeballs indicates death.
Slight blackening of the nose indicates phlegm-fluid retention. Yellow color of the nose indicates damp-heat. Inability to sneeze despite the urge indicates cold. Dry and black nostrils resembling soot indicate extreme Yang toxin-heat, which is extremely ominous. Black, moist nostrils exhaling cold air indicate extreme Yin toxin-cold. Blackening inside the nostrils and epistaxis in postpartum women indicate critical condition. Nasal congestion with blackness in the mouth indicates death. More exhalation than inhalation indicates death. Redness of the nose indicates wind-heat. Blue-yellow color at the nasal tip indicates Lin syndrome (dysuria). Bright red color of the nose indicates retained fluid retention. Purple-dark color of the nose indicates epidemic disease. If the patient's nasal tip and Shangen (root of the nose) are bright and the eyes are yellow, the disease is about to heal. Appearance of black color suddenly around the ears, eyes, mouth, and nose in a healthy person is ominous. Bluish discoloration under the Mingtang (nose tip) indicates sexual exhaustion or mental distress, specifically lack of sleep at night. Cyan color of the nose with abdominal pain and cold limbs indicates death. Yellow color of the nose indicates difficult urination, as well as phlegm-fluid retention and damp-heat. Cold in the chest with yellow-black and bright nose color indicates pain in the lower abdomen and hypochondrium, and accumulation of blood. White color of the nose indicates blood loss and Qi deficiency. Black color of the nose indicates sexual exhaustion and phlegm-fluid-water qi. Nasal pain indicates wind-fire. Clear rhinorrhea indicates Lung cold. Nasal congestion with turbid discharge indicates wind-heat. Heavy snoring with difficulty speaking indicates wind-warmth. Nasal resonance with dry vomiting indicates wind-cold injury. Fullness and swelling of the nostrils indicate wind-heat. Dry nostrils with floating and rapid pulse indicate impending epistaxis. Black, smooth, and cold nostrils indicate a Yin syndrome. Sweating like rain on the upper nose indicates Heart and Stomach disease. Flaring nostrils indicate death. Flat and full Renzhong (philtrum) indicates death.
