[Formula 4: Long-term Vitality Formula]
Harvest thick, white bamboo shoots with joints wide enough to fit a finger on the 8th day of the 2nd lunar month. Dry them in the shade, remove hairs, select an auspicious day, crush and sieve for one hundred days. One liang constitutes one dose.
Mix four parts of the herb powder with one and a half parts of honey and butter (Su), blending into a thick, soft porridge-like consistency until extremely uniform. Store in a porcelain vessel, seal tightly, and bury in a grain pile for one hundred days.
Before taking this medicine, one must first take a purgative. After vomiting and diarrhea cease, select a Wang Xiang day (auspicious day), take one liang on an empty stomach in the morning, hold it in the mouth and swallow slowly; the potency is strong and digestible. Gradually increase the dose to two or three liang. The medication should be taken between Chen (7-9 AM) and Si (9-11 AM) hours. Once the medicinal effect has subsided, one may consume glutinous rice milk gruel. No other food or drink is allowed; if thirsty, only small amounts of boiled water are permitted. Take one dose of medicine and one meal per day. If used to treat disease, stop when cured. If used to prolong life, enhance vitality, and improve intelligence, it must be taken diligently over a long period. Preparation and consumption must occur in a quiet room. Avoid going out frequently and daytime sleeping. Throughout life, avoid mutton and cooked Malva verticillata (Kui Cai). This formula also excellently treats accumulations (Pi), cough with rebellious Qi, hemorrhoids, and fistulas. It makes the skin and body plump, gives luster to the elderly, turns white hair black, prevents facial wrinkles, makes the body light and eyes bright, and enables movement swift as wind. It fills the marrow and benefits essence and Qi. Taking one dose extends life to one hundred years.
