Formula for treating sudden abdominal distension and fullness:
Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang), Crotonis Fructus (Badou) [remove skin and heart, stir-fry].
The above three herbs are used in equal parts. First, crush Dahuang and Ganjiang and sieve them; grind Badou into a paste-like consistency, mix it into the powder, and pound together one thousand times. Use immediately. It is also good to form pills with honey. Store in a sealed container to prevent deterioration. This formula treats sudden acute diseases of the heart and abdomen. If suffering from Zhong'e (sudden evil invasion) or Kewu (hostile spirit attack) causing painful distension of the heart and abdomen, locked jaw, rapid breathing, or even sudden death (Shisi), administer with water or wine. Take three or four pills the size of soybeans. Support the head to facilitate swallowing. If symptoms do not improve after a short while, take three more pills. When bowel sounds are heard in the abdomen accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea, it indicates efficacy.

Administer at one point during the fifth watch (early morning). The effect will manifest by midday. After evacuation, consume white rice porridge. Avoid hot food, alcohol, meat, and the Five Pungent Spices; all such items are strictly prohibited.

The above twenty-four herbs are ground into powder and formed into pills with honey, pounded thirty thousand times. The pills should be the size of small beans. Take before meals, two pills each time, twice daily. If ineffective, gradually increase the dosage. Place two pills on the door to keep evils away. For patients with Shanghan (Cold Damage), this pill ensures immediate recovery if taken. If visiting a sick person's home or attending to a patient, or traveling alone at night, take two pills to keep evil influences at bay. It may also be worn as an amulet.
