Method 34
To treat stomach diseases and tonify the Stomach, moxibustion is applied to Weishu (BL-21, Bladder Shu of the Stomach) for one hundred Zhu (moxa cones). It primarily treats cold in the Stomach, inability to eat, emaciation despite adequate food intake, borborygmus, abdominal fullness, and gastric distension.
Moxibustion is applied to Sanjiaoshu (BL-22, Bladder Shu of the Sanjiao) to treat accumulations and masses in the five Zang and six Fu organs, fullness in the heart and abdomen, lower back and back pain, indigestion, vomiting and regurgitation, alternating chills and fever, difficult urination, emaciation, and shortness of breath. The number of Zhu is determined by the patient's age (Sui Nian Zhuang).
Additionally, moxibustion is applied to the point two Cun below the xiphoid process, named Weiguan (Stomach Tube), ranging from one hundred to one thousand Zhu, which is preferable.
Xiaochangshu (BL-27, Bladder Shu of the Small Intestine) treats cold and heat disorders of the Sanjiao; moxibustion dosage is based on the patient's age.
To treat heat disorders of the Stomach, moxibustion is applied to Zusanli (ST-36), located three Cun below the knee, for thirty Zhu.
For regurgitation (Fan Wei), where food is vomited immediately after ingestion accompanied by rebellious Qi rising, moxibustion is applied one Cun below each nipple until the condition resolves.
Additionally, moxibustion is applied one Cun above the umbilicus for twenty Zhu.
Additionally, moxibustion is applied to a point slightly oblique and anterior to three finger-widths below the medial malleolus, for three Zhu. (The *Waitai Miyao* records this distance as one finger-width.)
Method for treating chest and hypochondriac distension:
For abdominal distension and hypochondriac/abdominal fullness, moxibustion is applied to Geshu (BL-17, Bladder Shu of the Diaphragm) for one hundred Zhu, repeated three times (San Bao Zhi).
For distension with edema, moxibustion is applied to Pishu (BL-20, Bladder Shu of the Spleen) for a number of Zhu corresponding to the patient's age, repeated three times.
For distension with borborygmus resembling thunder, moxibustion is applied to Changqiangshu (an ancient name, likely referring to a specific local point or typo for Dachangshu BL-25 or similar, but translated literally as Dog Intestine Shu) for one hundred Zhu, repeated three times.
For distension with Qi accumulation and sensation of cold, moxibustion is applied to Weiguan, located three Cun below Xinjiuwei (CV-15), for one hundred Zhu, repeated three times.
For distension encircling the umbilicus, with knotted pain and hardness, preventing eating, moxibustion is applied to Zhongshou (an ancient name, identified as Shenque CV-8 or nearby, but text says "in front of navel", actually text says "Zhongshou... one Cun above navel, also known as Shuifen"), for one hundred Zhu. It is located one Cun above the umbilicus, also named Shuifen (CV-9).
For distension with masses (Jia Ju) and pain from stagnation downward, moxibustion is applied to Qihai (CV-6) for one hundred Zhu, located one Cun below the umbilicus. Acupuncture is contraindicated here.
For distension with Qi resembling edema and a lower abdomen hard as stone, moxibustion is applied to the Mu-Alarm point of the Bladder for one hundred Zhu, located at Zhongji (CV-3), four Cun below the umbilicus.
For distension with Kidney cold, masses, and dysentery, moxibustion is applied to Tianshu (ST-25) for one hundred Zhu.
For chest fullness, accumulations and masses in the heart and abdomen causing bi-syndrome and pain, moxibustion is applied to Ganshu (BL-18, Bladder Shu of the Liver) for one hundred Zhu.
Method for treating dry heaving (Gan Ou):
For persistent dry heaving where ingested food is vomited continuously, moxibustion is applied to Jianshi (PC-5) for thirty Zhu. If there are four extremities cold (Si Jue) and the pulse is deep, hidden, and absent, moxibustion will restore circulation; this method can revive the seemingly dead.
Additionally, moxibustion is applied to Chize (LU-5, He-Sea point of the Lung Meridian, though text says "Heart Master" implying Pericardium, but Chize is Lung; strictly translating text: Heart Master Chize), which is also effective.
Additionally, moxibustion is applied one Cun below the nipple for thirty Zhu.
For all cases of hiccups (Yue), which cause distress and regret, moxibustion is applied to Chengjiang (CV-24) using a moxa cone the size of a wheat grain, for seven Zhu.
Additionally, moxibustion is applied four finger-widths below the umbilicus for seven Zhu.
To treat sudden hiccups, moxibustion is applied to Danzhong (CV-17), Zhongfu (LU-1), and Weiguan, each for dozens of Zhu. Moxibustion is applied to Chize (LU-5) and Jueque (CV-14), each for seven Zhu.
Method for treating vomiting:
For vomiting and regurgitation preventing food intake, moxibustion is applied to Xinxu (BL-15, Bladder Shu of the Heart) for one hundred Zhu.
For vomiting and regurgitation preventing swallowing, where food eaten today is vomited tomorrow, moxibustion is applied to Geshu (BL-17) for one hundred Zhu.
For sudden vomiting and regurgitation, moxibustion is applied one Cun below the nipple for seven Zhu.
For vomiting progressing to inability to eat, moxibustion is applied to the chest region for one hundred Zhu.
Additionally, moxibustion is applied to Jueque (CV-14) for fifty Zhu.
Additionally, moxibustion is applied to Weiguan for one hundred Zhu, repeated three times.
Additionally, moxibustion is applied to the Mu-Alarm point of the Spleen for one hundred Zhu, also named Zhangmen (LR-13), located lateral to Daheng (SP-15), directly opposite the junction of the umbilicus and costal margin, repeated three times.
For vomiting of old fluids and acid regurgitation, moxibustion is applied to Shenguang (an ancient name, identified as Riyue GB-24, Gallbladder Mu-Alarm point) for one hundred Zhu, repeated three times. (*Jia Yi Jing* states: Riyue is the Mu-Alarm point of the Gallbladder, located five Fen below Qimen LR-14).
For vomiting, coughing with rebellious Qi, cholera-like syndrome, and hematemesis, moxibustion is applied to the Hand-Shaoyin/Pericardium points for fifty Zhu.
For belching, hiccups, and obstruction of Qi in the diaphragm, moxibustion is applied to the depression adjacent to the ribs below the cluster of hairs in the axilla for fifty Zhu; this is highly effective.
For belching, hiccups, and vomiting with rebellious Qi, moxibustion is applied to Shiguan (KI-18) for one hundred Zhu.
