Yin-type carbuncles and sores (Yin-zheng Yongju) often occur in individuals of wealth who consume rich and greasy foods, as well as those eager for quick success and fame. These patients suffer from a lack of communication between the Heart and Kidney (Xin Shen Bu Jiao), leading to the depletion of both Yin and Yang Qi. Compounded by sorrow, depression, anger, and shouting, their Qi fails to disperse, condensing into severe toxicity. Regardless of where this toxicity manifests on the body, it constitutes a critical condition.
In the initial stage, the lesion color is invariably dark, the pain is not severe, and the sore does not protrude. It may present with numerous small openings to deceive observers, accompanied by a sensation of heaviness in the body. Urgent treatment should be administered using the following prescription:
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) 3 qian, Renshen (Ginseng Root) 3 liang, Sheng Huangqi (Raw Astragalus Root) 2 liang, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) 1 liang, Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle Flower) 3 liang, Baijiezi (White Mustard Seed) 2 qian.
Externally, apply a plaster mixed with 5 qian of Shengji powder (see previous section). The plaster must be changed twice daily. The formula for the plaster is as follows:
Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle Flower) 1 jin, Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root) 8 liang, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) 3 liang, Chuanxiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome) 2 liang, Niuxi (Achyranthes Root) 1 liang, Danpi (Moutan Cortex) 1 liang, Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber) 3 liang, Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root) 1 liang, Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike) 1 liang, Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) 5 qian, Huangqi (Astragalus Root) 3 liang, Qiancaogen (Rubia Root) 5 qian, Renshen (Ginseng Root) 5 qian, Xuanshen (Scrophularia Root) 5 qian.
Boil these herbs in 5 jin of sesame oil until boiling several times, then strain out the dregs. Continue simmering until the oil reaches the "pearl" stage (indicating proper viscosity). Then add the following ingredients:
Guangmuxiang (Costus Root) 1 liang, Huangdan (Lead Monoxide) 2 jin (stir-fried and washed to remove sand), Moyao (Myrrh) 1 liang, Xurxiang (Frankincense) 1 liang, Xuejie (Dragon's Blood) 1 liang, Xiangpi (Elephant Skin, powdered) 5 qian, Shexiang (Musk) 1 qian.
Grind all added ingredients into fine powder and mix into the oil with slight heating. Store in a porcelain jar for use. Apply approximately 1+ liang per lesion; if it is a back carbuncle, use more than 2 liang.
For back carbuncles in the initial stage, if confirmed as Yang-type (Yang-zheng), use the following prescription:
Rendongteng (Honeysuckle Stem) 2 liang, Qiancao (Madder Root) 3 qian, Zihuadiding (Viola Herb) 1 liang, Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb) 3 qian, Ganjuhua (Chrysanthemum Flower) 3 qian, Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark) 1 qian, Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root) 3 qian, Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) 3 qian.
Decoct in water and take orally. Symptoms alleviate after one dose, resolve after two doses, and cure is achieved after three doses.
If it is Yin-type (Yin-zheng), use the following prescription:
Renshen (Ginseng Root) 2 liang, Huangqi (Astragalus Root) 2 liang, Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle Flower) half jin, Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) 1 qian, Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike, stir-fried black) 3 qian, Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) 2 qian, Baishao (White Peony Root) 1 tian (liang).
Decoct in over ten bowls of water until reduced to two bowls of decoction. Take in two divided doses (morning and evening). This will transform the Yin condition into Yang, causing pain to arise. After two additional doses, the pain subsides, and after several doses, recovery is achieved.
If the sore has already ulcerated deeply, exposing bone or viscera, and the wound fails to close, with no efficacy from various topical medications, this formula is miraculous. Use the following prescription:
Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber) 1 liang, Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 2 liang, Shanzhuyu (Cornus Fruit) 1 liang, Renshen (Ginseng Root) 5 qian, Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) 1 qian, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) 1 liang, Rendongteng (Honeysuckle Stem) 1 liang, Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) 5 qian.
Decoct in water and take orally. Recovery is achieved after five doses.
