Almond (Xingren) 0.5 liang, pig masseter bone marrow (Zhu Jiache Sui) 12 zhu.
The above two ingredients: first grind the almonds into a paste resembling fat or marrow, and apply it to the swelling on the umbilicus.
White Halloysite (Baishi Zhi).
Grind to an extremely fine powder, then heat until slightly warm. Use the powder to dust the umbilical ulcer, three to four times daily.
This condition must occur within seven days after birth. The symptoms include a red face, wheezing with hoarseness, and a single cyanotic vein appearing above the umbilicus, rushing upward toward the heart region. It is advisable to urgently burn moxa wool on the tip of this vein before it reaches the heart region. The vein will retract downward by about one cun. Burn again on the retracted portion of the vein; the vein will naturally dissipate, and the disease will be cured. Internal medication:
Mint (Bohe) 3 qian.
Boil into a concentrated decoction and administer two or three mouthfuls. Do not administer in excess; it works miraculously quickly.
When the umbilical cord is severed, if the residual stump remains wet, or due to urine immersion, or failure to dry off during bathing, an ulcer may form. Treatment uses:
Poria (Fuling) 1 qian, Fritillaria (Beimu), Calcined Alum (Kufan), Panax notoginseng (Sanqi) each 3 fen, Realgar (Xionghuang) 2 fen, ash from paper grass (Caozhi Hui) 5 fen.
Grind together into a powder and sprinkle inside the umbilicus, then wrap with paper; it will heal spontaneously.
Chicken wings (six stems).
Burn to ash and ingest. Select the wing feathers based on their position relative to the egg during incubation (left or right).
Aucklandia (Qingmuxiang), Licorice (Gancao), Gypsum (Shigao), Kansui (Gansui) each 18 zhu, Musk (Shexiang) 3 zhu, Rhubarb (Dahuang), Peucedanum (Qianhu) each 1 liang, Scutellaria (Huangqin) 0.5 liang.
Add seven sheng of water, boil down to obtain 1.9 sheng. Take 3 he per dose, four times daily and twice at night.
Fox penis (Jihu Jing) (roasted).
Grind into powder and take with wine for excellent efficacy. Alternatively, squeeze out the white sap from mulberry wood and apply; or crush old wall plaster and apply; or use *Thermobia domestica* (Yizhong Baiyu) as a poultice; all are effective.
Coptis (Huanglian), Lead White (Hufen).
Mix equal parts of both substances, grind into powder, and apply mixed with sesame oil.
Quince root (Mu Gua Gen), Peony (Shaoyao), Angelica sinensis (Danggui) each 1 liang.
Take the above ingredients, add two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng. Take 5 he per dose, twice daily.
Clam Shell (Wenge) 4 liang, Mirabilite (Puxiao) 4 liang.
Add two sheng of water and decoct. Add Mirabilite, stir until dissolved, and wash the affected area. Stop when the water becomes cool. If heat and pain are felt, apply a mixture of Bear Bile (Xiong Dan) and borneol (Longnao).
Charcoal powder from burning fire.
Ingesting a measure of one cun spoon will cause expulsion. Alternatively, consume half a sheng of maltose (Mi Xing) prepared in the twelfth lunar month in one go; or drink a strong decoction of mugwort juice; all are effective.
